daisy_lee - sorry to rain on your parade but L. 'Banana Cream' is a sterile cultivar in my experience so even if it produces seed and you harvest them/trade for them, they may not/likely will not germinate. If you hope to add more Shasta daisy cultivars to your garden beds, check out Swallowtail Garden Seeds' website (see link below). They offer relatively few which suggests those you listed are not viable from seed and must be propagated via division. Of those listed above, 'Crazy Daisy' can be grown from seed--I winter sowed it in 2010 and it bloomed beautifully this past summer. I might have harvested seeds to share. It makes me wonder if there's a genetic component to how strong the smell is for some poeple-- the way roughly 10% of people think cilantro tastes like soap, because of their genes. There are a few mentions out there of them being stinky flowers: "Old-fashioned daisies are a must-have plant in cottage gardens and make a great addition to bouquets, at least as far as looks go. Not all, but some daisies bring a stink to the garden and bouquets that resembles either cat urine, toe jam or cow manure, depending on whose nose is sniffing. This makes sense, since flies visit the blossoms to help with pollination. Not all varieties are malodorous. Buy daisies in flower so you can test drive the scent." (https://www.hgtv.com/outdoors/flowers-and-plants/14-stinky-plants-pictures) ...and several mentions of them being pollinated by flies. Which makes the smell make sense, I guess. Things that smell like poo will attract flies. Buying shasta cultivars in flower and "test-driving" the scent before bringing them home seems to make sense. I'm glad not all of them stink. I know it will be a long while before I bring home another batch!

then trace down the stem.. and find tiny buds where leafs join.. pick some with buds facing in.. some with buds facing.. out.. ==>> no time to google.. but i bet the ones facing out.. are lateral ... we tend to want the plant to 'open up' .. rather than selecting interior buds.. and forcing them to grow inwards ... caro.. no plant maintains flowering vigor for the whole summer... we can 'extend' such.. but not really all summer ... what you need to be doing.. is watching these posts .. or starting your own.. for something like 'what starts blooming in july ... or august ...' .. so that you can plant waves of flowers as the season progresses ... juniorette.. needs to learn about a diversity of plants.. rather than focus on one type to love.. lol .. ken

northerner_on - I decided to Google White Knight and see what else I could find and you're right that Dave's data is incorrect. I found Estabrook's (southern Maine) website. They sell an extensive selection of Shasta daisy cultivars, including White Knight and Snow Lady. Their website shows WK growing 18-22." I sure wish they shipped outside of Maine--they've got 'Esther Reed' which I tried to get seeds of via a trade but was disappointed the person I was trading with posted them for trade but didn't follow through and send them to me. I bought 'Banana Cream' last year on a half-price perennial sale and will have those seeds available for trade this fall. Perhaps the two of us can arrange a trade.
