Help in designing my raised beds....

Hi,

Actually I don't need help with the beds themselves, I just finished building them. However I'm not sure what to plant and would love some input from you. I enjoy gardening but I'm not particularly good in picking out plants.

Here are the basics: I built two raised beds, one is 4'x13' and the other is much longer, 4'x35'. The two beds area separated by a tree. They run along a new fence I've put in (yet to be stained) and run pretty true north to south. Here's a picture of the smaller of the two beds. You can just barely see the tree to the left that separates the beds:

Because of trees (and the fence in late day), the area probably gets around 30-40% sun. I'd love to plant perennials and I am not adverse to shrubs and/or a small tree. I was trolling around the web for ideas, I kinda like what I see here, especially with the tree on the right: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/photos/0,,20190209,00.html

Any ideas for this old yellowish thumb?

Thanks,

Bob
