Front of house landscape suggestion

Hi,
I bought this house recently and am in the process of refining some landscaping.

I'm not looking to make any major changes, but need a suggestion on how to balance the left and right side of the house. Below is a full on picture, and then following is the left side which is Holly, Azalea and Azalea (with some Columbine flowers blooming in the front).

Right side are 3 azaleas.

The last azalea (at end of house) is throwing off the balance.

I'm not looking to change all the plantings - just the last one on the right side.

I was going to just replace it with a Holly so it's symmetrical, but wanted to see if anyone thought that perhaps something else would work there.

My only requirement is that it's evergreen. Thanks!

(and, yes, I understand the lawn is a mess! I'm in the middle of reseeding, etc).

Not sure if you have done anything yet, this is an older post(I just found this forum recently). But I would do most of your lanscaping on the left of your house, and a little on the right, maybe a couple of small trees also. If you have done something since this post, I would love to see it. Brat

Thanks all for your suggestions. We've started the work. So far, we've changed the shape of the hedge flower bed so it's not taking over the yard. It's just straight now in front of the porch and then circles out a bit towards the right side of the house to make a nice size bed for something. That circle-ish bed on the right side is about 12 ft x 12 ft and there's no window there. The ixora were pretty bad looking after the last of our freezes here in Daytona, so we uprooted them all and put 7 Lavender Formosa Azalea's in their place. (the original photo still shows the ixora) So far so good on those. Now, we bought a 4-trunk robellini / pigmy date palm and will pick it up this weekend. I just have to decide where to put it! I had pictured it on the right side of the house, but do we need something taller there instead of the robellini or in addition to the robellini? In the photos below, the only thing that's actually in our ground are the azeleas closest to the house. All else is my mockup to get opinions. That center bed isn't even there yet - just an idea. I like the Christmas palm because of it's multiple trunks, and we've got so much coquina in our area, it's not expensive to get a decorative rock for the center bed. That center bed isn't even there yet - just an idea. So, please help with suggestions for where to put our robellini that's coming in this weekend. It's about 7 ft tall from base of trunk to top frond, so it's pretty nice. Side note, we're extending the right fence so it's flush with the house and need access to the gate, so nothing can be planted in front of it, we've got 2 ft. of stationary fence right next to the house on the right, but no further than that. So, bottom line, I've got a robellini coming in and I've got to decide where to put it! Original - how our yard looks now My fav, the robellini in the back and a christmas up front, maybe a queen in the back for height? I'm not sure if we've got the room for the queen though. But it doesn't look bad without the queen Or the robellini in the front? I tried 2 queens in the photo in the front bed and it was too busy and 1 queen looked lonely. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I planted a Dave Wilson 4 in 1 pluot tree at my parents house this spring(late March). They live 15 mins from me. And although there was no fruit this year( I picked off all the flowers this first year) all four grafts have grown at least 4 foot in length with multiple shoots. And once I pruned it in the middle of June multiple side shoots have shot out. So I'm very enthusiastic about them thriving here. I received them in December and kept them in the shed so they felt the cold here. The only problem I've had here and at my parents house is Japanese beetles but since there was no fruit a sprayed them with Sevin and they haven't return. I'm in Missouri not Minnesota. But still we've had a very unusual wet and very humid start to our summer here.

Help! need suggestions for Landscaping front of house.

Added photos that show the whole front of the house and yard would help. Stand 15 ‘ or 20’ from the front door and take one photo straight on and without moving to another spot take one or two slightly overlapping photos to the left and right so that we can see all the way from the left side of the property to the right, and up to the roof line of the house. Plantings need to be in context, so we need to see windows, doors, other plantings, etc. so it all works together and looks proportional to the building. For instance, are there trees shading this spot? Is it a one or two story house and how big is the roof overhang? What do the current shrubs look like? Since you aren’t in a desert area, an organic mulch such as shredded bark mulch or chopped leaves will work much better than stone for your mulch. Knowing the nearest big city will help as well so we can have an idea of soil pH. In my area, acid loving plants like Rhododendrons do well, but in areas with more neutral or alkaline soils, they aren’t happy.

Just get a holly to match and make the whole business symmetrical.

Keep up with the trimming religiously so you don't develop one of those foundation plantings that everyone will say just to rip out and start over. Also, trim the plants LEVEL despite if there are grade imperfections. Use a line of siding as a guide. The hollies should be the same size, height and shape (ultimately) and the azaleas should be likewise a matched set. (Hopefully you will grow them as a hedge, not trim as individuals.)

yep...ditto what Yardvaark said. Also I can't help but wonder what the rest of the left of the left side has going on. And your dog is beautiful :)

Excellent, thank you. What I was thinking, but glad to have some experts weigh in!

So, when you say to trim the azaleas as a hedge, do you mean to keep the 2 the same shape and size so they are uniform?

As for the left side of the house, I will post pictures later on. Essentially, I have 3 more tiers that go down to the driveway. The front of the house is south facing so I used 2 tiers to do my veggie and herb gardens.

Third tier (floor level) is a perennial garden which will probably be updated with new plants in the future. Much of this is hidden by a big pine tree - I am in the process of redoing the landscape around this pine tree. We pulled up 30 years worth of non maintained creeping juniper and are going to regrade and then replant this space - with grass, myrtle and a shade perennial garden under the tree.

I'll share more pictures later for additional opinions on the remainder of the space. Thanks for feedback!

"trim azaleas as a hedge" ... treat those plants which form a hedge as if they were a single plant. They are growing together as one and when achieved, no one could tell how many plants went into making the hedge. It is an architectural device. You are making a knee wall out of plants. It could have a rigid, squarish cross-section profile, or a rounded profile (as if being a giant 1/4 round molding on the wall of your house.) But always, the base of the hedge should be wider than the top which would give its sides a slanted face. OK, you could trim it pure vertical as many people do, but this is not as good. The worst: trimming it so that the sides slant inward as they descend (as many people also do!) This should never be done as it will make the plant lose the lower foliage.
