two observations form new member

hello everyone,

I have been reading these forums for months and you all have been most helpful. I would like to share with you two observations I made recently and I hope you will comment on it.

First: I could not find any reference online about this. I started my compost pile which is mainly carbon rich material. It did not want to heat up. I bought a bottle of ammonia from a grocery store, a gallon of it costs only $2 or so. I diluted it with water (1/10) and poured over the pile. On the very next day the pile is steaming hot

Second: I have been fighting with squirrels. Many of you posted that the combination of plaster of paris and peanut butter is very effective. "My" squirrels ate over 2 pounds of these mixture and I am yet to see the population decrease. The love it and I think it keeps them very healthy. I dare to say it does not work! Or maybe I need to keep feeding them more?
