That is so odd, my fridge that is less than 9 months old needed a service call when the freezer started defrosting all our food. Fortunately we have a large freezer and I was able to get most things into it in time. When they came to fix it, it ended up being the compressor. Can you believe that, after only 9 months? Mine is a Whirlpool bottom freezer model. What a waste of time though, huh?

Hope you get them in the ground soon. It has been an odd year. Especially after the 3 week early spring of last year. I normally sow pea seeds the end of March but I was 3 weeks late this year. Now I'm wondering if it will get too hot for all the cold weather crops this year.

I guess this can become a thread about fridges: I have hardly known of anyone buying a new refrigerator in the past few years without it malfunctioning in the following months. For whatever reason quality control in that industry appears to be going down the drain, even as with motor vehicles and some other technologies it has been markedly improving.

I'm hanging onto my old fridge. One sees articles about the energy efficiency of new ones, but they aren't energy efficient if they don't work.

I've had enough of Sears. On the strength of their past good name I ordered appliances a couple years ago, they bungled part of the order. I paid with Paypal and got them involved and they helped me because Sears was giving me the runaround.
In my opinion they are no longer the 'go to' store for appliances just because their service to me was so poor.

Agree with all of you. We bought all Kenmore products based on Consumer Reports and have had problems with the dishwasher and the oven. The fridge though has had no problems yet. Sears is not the store they used to be.

Nothing planted here either except onions and potatoes and neither Sears nor refrigerators has anything to do with it.

My problem is weird weather. Pouring rain and unusually cold nights have put me over 3 weeks behind already and the coming week doesn't look much better.
But hey! the weeds are lush and at least it won't be the drought we've had the past 2 years.

Same here DD. All white goods behaving themselves but the weather has only just started being spring-like. Just started outdoor sowing last week. (Except a row of favas I put in the week before.)

Imagine southern England and Arkansas being behind southern MA in spring planting! Weird, huh?

White goods? Must be a britishism much like donning a jumper (took me ages to understand that word beyond the fact it was an article of clothing). No problems here with the early crops, but the warm season starts are just hanging on, getting larger and larger waiting for the weather to break. I usually put them out on the small side, so it's ok so far. The fruit trees and shrubs have been most affected, pushing out new growth and blossoms on the hot days, only to get nipped by frosts on the cold nights. My main hope is that we don't just suddenly jump 40 degrees right into the heat of summer, I hate when that happens. Cheers!

Early in April, while our drought was still hanging on a bit, there was a short dry spell after the ground had thawed.

I jumped on it, set out transplants and put seeds in my fall-prepared rows. Everything is still alive, though growth has been really slow and the carrots have yet to come up.

It was a crapshoot, because we had quite a few frosty nights in April. But if I were to try and step in there now, I'd sink in the mud.

Things have been chilly and wet here for the most part, but I do have the first planting of corn in along with the early ones like onions, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, carrots, and glads.

Dennis, today was perfect for planting. I got out of bed at 7 am, planted for 3 hours (9 beds), and finished in my parka as rain started falling. This was mostly lettuce and collards, but also broccoli and komatsuna. It has now drizzled for 8 hours, with steady 50-55 temperatures, this is perfect planting weather, specially ahead of the coming mid-70 week.

I hate early Sunday rises as much as anyone, but I hate more fussing over transplants during and after planting. In the case of lettuce, I just scratched trenches, laid semi-bare root plants in, and covered with some of my (semi-dry) planting soil, knowing that rain would finish the job for me. I can not do as good a job as nature did for me, to ensure no shock to the plants.

I have very little in the ground. The weather gets lovely for a bit and then a couple of days later, BAM! a terrible freeze. Last Tuesday was forecasted to be a low of 30 and it got to 17 instead. Then, back up to nice again, high 30s. I have to say, I hate spring. These wide swings are not good for the plants and not good for me either!
