Question about bean spacing and inoculant

I am about to plant some Contender Bush type Green Beans and was wondering how close I could plant them.

The directions say every 2 inches and then thin out to every 6 inches.

The square foot spacing is 9 per sq foot which comes out to 4 inches in every direction.

I am not using the square foot raised bed or soil. It is just in some regular soil with compost and I am hoping to improve the soil with the beans.

Could I simply plant every 2 inches like the directions say but only thin every other one to match the square foot spacing or do they really need 6 inches between them in regular soil?

Also, I already planted some pole beans but forgot to use some inoculant.

Should I water some in around the seedlings?
