HAVE: Ostrich Ferns - get them fast.

Hello, I have a bunch of Ostrich Ferns I am digging out. Too much wind here and they blow over and look horrible. SO.... out they go. They will go for compost if no one wants them. There will be a dozen or so. I would love a trade, so just let me know what you have. I will also do postage sent to my Paypal account. I am digging these today, so I need to set something up ASAP. Can you tell me what these ferns need? I read that it's hardy zone 2-9. I have a very large shady (dappled with mature oaks) area that is going to be all garden in the near future. The area is in a valley, so protected from wind, and fairly cool and moist (zone 3). I will be using similar ground treatments that I use for my Hostas, since that will be the most prolific companion. PLEASE do not throw these before you let me know! I would cry! lol! This might be just the thing that I am looking for.

i kinda figured the clematis might not work ... but i was trying to get this newbie to think outside the fern box she has created in her mind.. there are a multitude of understory plants... perhaps within the WOODLAND category which will fit the given location... IF she can get past this fern fixation ... its not that fern itself is bad.. or the ostrich in particular ... but there are thousands of options beyond such ... i would also caution.. since she has only been in this garden for a short time ... that just because it was damp last year.. does NOT mean that is how it will be next year ... weather tends to cycle.... and you should NOT make assumptions too easily ... when i moved here 10 years ago .. i planted 40 bare root six to 8 foot oaks,ash, redbuds.. etc ... and thank God.. it rained every 4 days all summer. ... the ONLY thing that helped me PROPERLY water them on 5 acres ... i learned a lot about dragging hoses that year.. lol ... since then .... that has never happened again ... and i am glad.. i invested in some irrigation lines with spigots around the yard... rather than bank on ma nature ... soooo ... to the newbie ... dont make presumptions... and dont get fixated ... a new post giving the parameters ... without fern in the title.. might get you 1000 more options.. or not.. who knows.. lol ... the water issue might be directly related to the home building.. and the impact on soil structure.. and that might change over time ... ken

I would be very interested in the ostrich fern, red bergamot and red twig dogwood. I have buttercup, virginia waterleaf (have in lots of places that aren't wet lands), jewelweed,lots of violets (purple, yellow, white and blue woodland types), trillium, maybe some toothwarts, woodland phlox and other items. Only thing is will be a week or so before can go to my other place and get them. Will be going and moving alot of things over then. If you are interested, plmk. Hello! Update: There are 26 total and the whole box weights 17 pounds. As for hardiness, found info stating they were hardy to zone 3. They need shade. They seem to do ok with morning sun here, but I have seen them planted around here in about half and half and they get fried.

Toni, do you not want any more than 3?????? Please????

Don't worry, Susan, I will take whatever is left from Toni and anyone else who responds! Not to be greedy, but I believe they will be wonderful in my garden!
