Landscaping Help - Hill

I bought my house last fall and am having trouble cutting the grass in front of house. From the front of the house, the lot is level for about 40' and then drops sharply down to the road. I'm guessing the slope is about 35%.

I tried cutting with my riding mower, but the slope is too steep. I bought a push mower and was able to cut the grass, but I had trouble maintaining my footing and it is probably too dangerous to continue mowing it.

So I am looking for an inexpensive solution. The area is about 40' x 120' and drops about 12'. The slope is south facing.

I don't have much to spend (a few hundred max) and would put functional as main priority.

The water pipe from the street is the only underground utility I need to plan for, but I don't think it is a problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble just coming up with options.

Thanks

Rich
