Woohoo, Penny! It sounds like you have a mother load of pipes there! Maybe someday I'll get PVST here, but I don't have any type of pipevine planted yet. I'm so busy with other plants this year and other butterfly projects that I think I've already overextended myself with time and money. I forget if any pipevines would make it over winter here. I'd have to look it up somewhere. I'd love to have the butterflies someday. They wouldn't be anywhere near here right now. It's only 20° and with the wind chill it only feels like 9°. Tonight it's supposed to get down to 5°, so I can imagine that with the wind chill it will probably be about 10 BELOW. We don't have quite a foot of snow on the ground, so we didn't get dumped on too much. Other areas had a foot or more, even 2 or 3 feet. NY is even worse. That must have been rough for those travelers being stranded on one of our interstates for a day or more here in PA. You'd think that there'd be some type of plan in place ahead of time for a situation like that, BUT... I'm definitely looking forward to spring now for sure. Good luck with those pipes! :) Cathy

I don't know what i'm going to do - she's already been buying litte outfits! I did give her a gift bag full of baby things for Christmas, making sure that i added some Toronto Maple Leaf socks (Eddie's a Montreal fan, the traitor...). I have a blanket made and i also have a little dress that was supposed to be a gift for someone else and never quite made it. Since she will be a summer baby, she won't need much in the line of sweaters and blankets. I'm going to ask Mike if he'll attempt making a change table for them. We have a crib that he made and a cradle that a friend made, so they'll have that. I can fix up sheets and things and maybe my mother-in-law will do a little quilt. Still waiting for her to have the ultrasound to find out for sure that it's a girl - the ring on a chain said it was! :)

I'm glad everyone has good memories of those aluminum glasses. I am surprised that no one else had heard or or seen the sweat bands. Our neighbor across the street, Ann, used to invite me over quite a bit in the summer, or was it she just dealt with me very nicely when I'd drop by? LOL. She had tons of antiques and taught me how to use and recognize fine china, under the guise of a little afternoon tea. She's the first one that gave me iced coffee, although I'm sure all the milk and sugar she put in it helped make me like coffee ice cream when I don't really even drink coffee at all. They didn't have kids and therefore had a bit more money to spend on interesting modern things. She had the sweat bands that went on the aluminum tumblers that lots of other people had bare nekkid. I sat for many an hour on her back porch helping clean whatever bushels of produce were currently being canned. They also had a player piano and getting invited to go over to play that was one of my favorite summer memories. They're both sorely missed. I wanted to send something for fall or winter and since that little painting showed all those empty fall fields I thought it would be good. I started to get some big winter soup/coffee mugs but the decoration on them was a bit Christmasy. Green with trees or red with snowflakes. Smiles. I had an email about the picture so here's a closeup of it. I originally painted it to use as a Thanksgiving card and have, but thought it'd be good for this. I also figured all the tan fields might be a bit like Australia in Winter. It's one of my favorite old local farms. I'll make it a thumbnail so it can just be clicked if you want a closer look. Again, I'm so happy you like everything Colleen, even the 'drop cloth'. heh...
