Anyone growing Imperial Star artichokes in New England?

I'm trying them for the first time this year and have a few seedlings that germinated March 7. As I understand it they need a couple weeks of temps between 25 and 50 degrees to fool them into creating flowers this year. When I did my planning that sounded a lot like April to me, but it's been very warm and the immediate forecast doesn't have an extended cool period.

Any ideas on how to keep them cool once they go outside? Can you keep them in shade during that time? Is it too early to put them out next week (they are in the basement under lights now)? I read that they should grow for 6 weeks before the cool treatment, but now I think the middle or end of April will be too warm.

Would love to know if anyone else is trying this - or has grown them - in New England and how you handled the cool period.
