Just a thought, I am currently researching corsican mint and elfin thyme to be used for a groundcover in between stones. They can take walking from what I read, but I am not sure to what degree. I think creeping thyme is also nice but is higher.

I have a groundcover Sedum that is so tuff it'll grow on concrete without soil and I know it to be a fact because I have it growing on a concrete slab on an old well not in use anymore.I planted some around the well and it started growing on top of the slab without dirt,And it looks beautiful.It takes Heat,Sun,Shade, whatever you put it in, It will take.It has star shaped yellow flowers that cover the whole plant, it blooms the first week of June.If in full sun it will bloom for a long period, If in shade not as much, But it will still look pretty because of it's color and shape.If your are interested in any I would be HAPPY TO SHARE!! Just let me know and send me your address and off it'll go to your home!!Also I have a ton of Ajuga that is a pretty tuff plant as well.You can't hardly kill either one of these groundcovers and they are peferct for hillsides and slopes! Having an average of 5-12 deer in my yard every day means I have concentrated on this for several years now. I live right on the edge of a large wildlife preserve where the deer have essentially wiped out ALL of the native wildflowers and groundcover plants. Most of my land is light to medium shade. Epimediums and Hellebores are a great choice (I grow over 50 species and varieties of Epis and hundreds of Hellebores). Lamium, Brunnera and Pulmonaria are also good. If you plant Lamiastrum use "Herman's Pride" its a bushy one that doesnt spread but has nice foliage and flowers. Dracunculus is fabulous as an accent in my garden. Arum italicum if it isn't an invasive in your area. Stylophorum is a must-have for the yellow in early Spring. I've had fair luck with Trilliums, T. luteum is especially good. George

Nothing is coming to mind as a way to have height, see some wall behind it, except a topiary or espalier, and either is going to require some occasional trimming attention (a simple topiary, a little less, I think,) Actually, I'm in disagreement with what you think you need here, and would lean in a different direction ... where the window is built upon and emphasized more by adding a shrub to underscore it, and the "white space" surrounding the ensemble is kept and used to set it off. In that case it would be helpful if the window had higher contrast trim (such as white) so as to distinguish it from the house body color scheme. But then, I doubt you would want to get that involved with a revamp. :-) The surrounding ground space could be broken up as you wish with lower material ... mulch, gravel, lawn, groundcover, perennials and annuals, etc. That said, yards are best designed with knowledge of total and surrounding space. It's anyone's guess how your corner would best fit in with the surrounding area.
