Kay, I rooted this using florists' foam. I didn't really start out to root it, as I've heard it's difficult, but I broke a piece off when moving the mother plant. I took that piece and cut it down into three small cuttings, probably about three nodes long, then treated it like I do passiflora cuttings. I got an e-mail from PD today stating they were out of the Thai Giant, but would have more stock in a few weeks. I don't know if that means I got one or not. I did get an e-mail confirming my order, with an order #, etc., but still don't know for sure. Probably not....sigh....., but wonder if that means they will send the 'Ruffles'. Their minimum order is $35 which means that half of that order is $21 (I think the Thai was $22, and the Ruffles was $20). Bihai - I don't have anything that is big enough to be "tradable" yet, but eventually would love to trade! I haven't even thought of checking around on the forum first because I don't have anything yet, except the common stuff. Susan

I haven't bought any colocasia's or alocasia's, I don't know if I will. The Philo unfortunetely didn't make it by the end of the week and sat in the post office the whole weekend, upon arrival I had to chop 75% of the plant. It's recovering, though the plant is so huge I can barely lift the pot on my own and need to do some serious thinking on how this is going to work out, watering that is. I have a drip tray underneath but I can't empty the drip tray after watering because the plant is so massive and heavy when I tried to lift it up last watering to empty the tray, water just made a huge mess on the floor everywhere. What a mess, and my schedule is completely full, actually it's overflowing and now I owe a bunch of sleep debt.

I think you have grown a different type of Colocasia X. To my knowledge the Giants do not sucker and the flower stalk is not connected to the new leaves,the new leaf comes out of the last leaf and the flower stalk is seperate on this one. I will post some pics when I get a chance. It looks like the leaf size will stay the same for now,I need to find out if this will produce seed,if it will I will leave the stalk,if not I will remove after I see what it looks like-the last leaf was +4'! I think they flower when they flower,(-;probably day length as you mentioned,although not much change in that so far,so....... It has been fertilized regularly so,not sure if nitrogen would halt the flowering. ">
