@ astroknot- wow =) thats a good list. i will look it over. i live in northern northern california, in the state of jefferson =) much closer to oregon than san franpsycho. =P just messing around, my pet name for your city. its a lovely place actually, but way too big city for me. i have a lot of wild onion seed. it grows in enormous patches here, right outside my door and all down the road.... and i regularly spread it everywhere, and eat a lot of it in season =) i harvested two big bags of the seed just a month or so ago...and theres quite a bit of seed right now still on them. so as much as you want i could send...i guess the postage is more a factor that anything else, cause i could send thousands of wild onion seeds if you wanted. or just a nice small bag full, if thats more appropriate. i have or have access to several other things on your list. there are three small young coastal redwood trees here on this land. i recently took some stem cuttings, and branch cuttings of the coastal redwoods....this is one of the things i traded for the guava and papaya and some passionvines + some other plants with my friend in hawaii=) i looked into finding seeds,the cones, thought it would be cool to gather a bunch of redwood seeds. but apparently they dont seed very often, and i couldnt find any, anywhere. and they are hard to start that way. but stem cuttings work out better, and especially from a young tree. thats a bigger deal, have to actually package them...but if you want to arrange something with that i could take some stem cuttings -theres a few more there. i have elderberries and they are also everywhere here. i have a few elderberry seeds from last year, they were shriveled up looking old ones...figured they would be good for seed? idk. i've only started them from cuttings, they re root pretty good. i could send these along with the rouquette arugula and wild onions. theres several other trees here as well. native willows, and a eucalyptus.

Last fall the short season snap peas produced for me while the longer season shelling peas never even set fruit although the vines were vigorous and healthy. I think they just needed more time than we got in the fall.

jcheckers - Thanks for bumping this thread. Dawn, great info - it could not come at a better time. I have a couple of questions and some info to share. I've been sowing seed for spring broccoli, kale, Chinese cabbage, mustard spinach, lettuce, etc. and preparing beds for onion plants and potatoes. Most of the spring broccoli crop will be Piricicaba (thanks for the recommendation). I just harvested the last of the fall-planted broccoli - the plants were ratty looking and windburned (I forgot to replace the row cover) but most were still making small buds. I read that Piricicaba was developed to provide edible leaves. I was curious about this so did a taste test of Piricicaba leaves v. leaves of Superdome, Windsor, and Premium Crop. Piricicaba leaves were tasty and very tender. Leaves of the other broccoli varieties were very tough. Piricicaba has another benefit - lots of edible leaves - in addition to being heat tolerant. I used the last leaves and heads in a Thai stir-fry. Very good!. I picked up 10# bags of red, yellow, and russet organic potatoes at a Whole Foods. Most have small sprouts. I put the potatoes on trays next to a glass door so they get lots of light. Then I recalled someone saying that they had Irish potatoes in a closet. Someone else said sunlight will turn potatoes green. Should I put the potatoes in darkness or light to sprout? Is sun pouring through a glass door too much light? Has anyone grown Komatsuna (AKA Mustard spinach). Farmerdill gives it high marks so I decided to try it this year. Regular spinach doesn't grow well here so I've given up on it. I'd like to find more good greens for spring. I've been looking at Evergreen Seeds (link below) They say "Komatsu is a fast-growing vegetable and is ready for harvest 35 days after sowing in warm climates. Plants can be grown all year round in temperate and subtropical areas." Sounds too good to be true! Does anyone have experience growing Chinese cabbage (Bok choi, pak choi)? I planted both Sugar Snap and Sugar Ann this year and was pleased with both here in central NH. I thought both stood up well considering the hot weather we had but I planted early after warming the soil with black plastic. I think my first planting date was April 9. I will plant less Sugar Snaps next year and try for a later planting. I grew two pea pod varieties that I didn't like at all. One was an Amish variety that a friend raved about and another was a yellow pod. Perhaps they would have done better if I hadn't planted them so late. What worked great was using concrete reinforcing mesh as pea fences. They are held in place by metal posts. The sugar snaps probably got 7 ' tall so they needed a strong fence. I should have also tied them up sooner. They don't seem to cling to the fence at all. In the vicinity of the Sugar Anns I found a couple of struggling plants really late in the season. I think they seeded from dropped pods. I wished I had grown a fall crop of these. NEXT year!
