new plan for watering/irrigation

I live in Peoria Arizona, and have a raised bed garden I was going to try a new plan for watering I did have the garden set up with drip irrigation and soaker hoses, but the hoses get clogged (probably calicium build up) I was planning on buring pvc with holes drilled in and running it between rows and let water seep out under the surface I thought it would be more practical than overhead and I can connect them all... I thought I had come up with a great idea but then realized that this is just a form of sub irrigation that is commonly used. Does anyone else use a system like this and are there drawbacks other than spending a little more money on supplies to get it started. It will not be connected to the drip system at least not at first, so I will control the water.
