Is A Cold Box worth it?

I live in zone 6 so the ground freezes in the winter. I often wonder whether I could grow lettuce in the autumn or winter months, if I had a cold box. Is there enough sunlight in the winter to grow lettuce here?

Does anyone know which months, if any, would be suitable for me to grow lettuce in the cold box? Maybe it's not called a cold box, I dont even know. They seem to be dug into the ground and have a hinged door with glass on top. I'd have to hire someone to make one, I'd have to learn which size, etc. I cant seem to grow lettuce here after early July, that is when the heat makes my lettuce plants bolt. I have often tried to plant at end of August or early Sept and it just doesnt seem to give me a crop.

I'll read all your posts about usage, timing of plantings and construction.
