Potatoes in container - Some questions

Julia WV (6b)

I plan to try growing potatoes in containers this year but have a few questions if anyone can help.

I've seen some folks have planted the seed directly after cutting the pieces and the other way was to let the cut heal over for a day. Is there a right or wrong way?

When the plants growth is peeking out of the soil mix, do you cover the new growth completely with the next layer of soil mix or allow it to grow a bit? When covering with more soil mix do you leave some of the plant showing or keep it buried until it reaches the top of the container?

When your finished harvesting the plants, is the soil mix able to be reused for the next season?

What fertilizers, if any, have you used to feed the plants?

Julia
