Hi there. I'm interested in the festuca. Plant-wise, here's what I have to offer: 1 - a day-flowering "evening" primrose with gorgeous red-purple foliage that greens up toward summer. Glowing yellow flowers. About 2' tall. Very hardy. This spreads very nicely. 2 - a soft pink garden mum that has daisy-like flowers. Also very hardy, blooms around September. I think it's call Apricot. I can send a garden photo. 3 - Northern sea oats. Very attractive, rustling grass. About 2' tall witih pendulous seedheads. 4 - Liriope. Short grass with shell pink flowers. Sun or shade. 5 - Lamium "Yellow Archangel." Groundcover with variegated foliage and soft yellow flowers. 6 - Rumex Red Veined Dock. Gorgeous green plant with red veins. Sends up a flower spike, but I have not seen this. Almost out of this. 7 - Oenothera speciosa - very soft pink, beautiful ground cover plant. 8 - Obedient plant - soft pink, 2 1/2-3'. 9 - Lysimachia with purple foliage. Photographs poorly, but actually a very nice plant! Small yellow flowers. 10 - a few cuttings of sedum Angelina. Thanks for your consideration.

Great Plains, here is that same photo with some IDs attached. It's amazing when I study it, how different it is now. This photo is probably the best it ever looked. In reality it was a re-seeding nightmare. Yarrow and blue fescue were taking over everything, and it just looked like a mess most of the time. The Karl Foester plants got sooo huge and even the once-per-year cutting back was a big chore. And there were zero shrubs to anchor the scene and provide some order. So I've kept the well-behaved grasses, added masses of coneflowers (most of which have planted themselves at this point), allowed well-behaved self-seeders (penstemon, blue flax, ratibida, some catananche), and added a lot of shrubs. I took out 100% of the yarrow and blue fescue because they can't seem to exist in moderation. I can imagine that you would have great luck with penstemon. I sure do love them in all their forms and colors. Before you get too excited about coneflowers (echinacea) beware that they drink a lot of water. More than I thought. But I still love them so they will stay, and in time they will be pushed out by the shrubs and there won't be quite so many. Are the photos you posted with the blue adobe house in the background your place? It's fantastic and so regionally appropriate! A garden in these parts must have ornamental grasses if you ask me!

I have cannas name not sure leaves are green with burgundy veins and red flowers when planted in full sun. However my neighbor planted the ones I gave him in partial shade and his came up with burgundy leaves green viens and red flowers. Where in TN are you I'm 45 mins N of Nashville.

The previous owners of my house planted ornamental grass (ribbon grass and something similar that is solid green) in a bad spot. They are mature and I want them gone so I can have a vegetable garden.
