What can I plant in this glass jar?

Yello:)

Yesterday I found this glass jar (it was from mayonnaise)

it is 4.3 inches (11cm) tall and 2.3 inches (6cm) in diameter.

I wanted to use it somehow so I filled it with soil and planted a lentil seed. I don't expect it to grow like in the fields but I didn't have anything else to plant. Now I wonder what else can I plant in there?

It is small and it doesn't have any holes for the water to drain.

I would like something that can grow indoors and not too tall. (except from cacti, I don't like them at all:\ )

That way I could have it on my desk and with no holes it won't be messy.

Any suggestion is welcome:)

You might want to google on terrariums and 'bottle plants' and similar. The jar would make a perfect mini terrarium.

Hi pyroboy,
Dandelion is very nutritious, with the young leaves & all parts edible.
Dig a knife around a dandelion plant from some place you feel is OK.
Wash dirt off root & trim/pinch off the stalks, baby buds & older leaves.
Replant the root with 1 tender leaf & it will send up new growth; don't worry if you cut the root when handled it or separated rootlets.

Yes, I've done this successfully, too. I just added a drop or two of a balanced liquid fertilizer (I think I used schultz?) and occasionally I even sprinkled in some fish food and that seemed fine. They actually did better that way than in the tank! I had sword plants, a grassy valisnera (sp?), a ribbony plant, and a dwarf grassy thing. I actually saved my anacharis and did this too, and I felt like a farmer! I gave huge amts to a friend for his turtle to play in and munch on! :) good luck!

Never buy canning jars online. The postage costs will exceed the price of the jars in small quantities. Ace Hardware online will deliver to your local Ace Hardware at no cost. You just pick them up at your local Ace when they arrive in a week or so (most Ace Hardware stores carry canning supplies anyway.) But if they don't. I know just how you feel. I have canned 19 different fruits and veges this year. My mistake was I used some - not all, older canning books. I am faced with the prospect of throwing out 30 or more jars of preserves. When it gets me down, however, I think of how I'd feel if one of my daughters got sick from eating it or my hubby and I'd throw the whole lot away in a second. Before you know it your shelves will start to fill up with beautiful safe jars and you'll forget about the ones you had to throw out. Hi Eleena: Yes, the reason I want THESE is due to their shape and appearance. I wanted to serve mousses', puddings, layered desserts, etc. in them because the Spega jars are soooo attractive whereas the Ball-ones are more utilitarian. I HAVE purchased the Weck ones now, which are almost as cute but still have my eye out for Spega, too, if not too expensive.

I grow several different houseplants in non-draining containers. You just have to be careful not to over water. I grow tradescantia(wandering jew), hoya(wax plant),chlorophytum(spider plant). You might check the house plant forum for ideas for smaller plants. HTH
