hydrogen peroxide

Hi everyone,I have several dwarf citrus in terracotta pots.They are young trees and it is winter here in new zealand.I have lost several trees in the past to wet roots and

lack of oxygen at the rootball.I read here about Al using hydrogen peroxide to help the roots through wet winters.

I havent been able to find the 35 % food grade stuff yet,so i

have a 500 ml bottle of 6 % at present.What i want to know is

how much i would need to use in mls in my 7.5 litre watering

can,each time i water.I am aware,you start out slow and build

up,so any advice here? what should i start at and what should

i build up to for my 7.5 litre watering can?Al,if your there,

i know your the man!!!!! cheers

I use 30 ml/L. (1 ounce) of 6% solution prepared with distilled water & 35% food grade H2O2 mixed in irrigation water.

Hi Al,thanks for your reply.Ok 30 ml per litre at 6%. Should i
build up to that or just go for it? I have heaps going on in pots now= pomegranite,blueberries,blackcurrants,chillies,dwarf
citrus,strawberries etc .Thanks for all the help you have given to me,especially with my citrus.All good fun.Cheers

I did the heat treatment on some last year and 2 plants show damage this year. One August Moon and 1 Gold Edger. About the Gold Edger...they are the ones that I dug up from my camper and put in a black plastic bag to take home and heat treat, but I forgot all about the bag being in my black car for over 2 weeks in the hot August sun. I did not heat treat them, I just planted them as an experiment. Out of those 5 Gold Edgers, 1 leaf shows damage this yr. The August moon that shows 1 leaf affected was treated last year in 130 degrees for longer than the recommended time. All the rest of the plants look good. BTW, Nearly every treated plant survived the heat treatment from last fall.

A dilute baking soda solution will change the pH enough to kill the mold but you need to let the surfaces of the terrarium dry out enough where plants can thrive but molds cannot. Try testing a of baking soda water (should be dilute enough so it tastes like the memory of a pretzel, clear and not cloudy) on a small area and give your moss a couple days to see if it is OK with the spray at your provided concentration.

LOL Mama!! Had to pick myself off the floor. I've been using powdered Tide F/G and powdered TWB this summer. Soft water starting out with two tablespoons, feel for break, load clothes, feel water again and sometimes I'll add a half to another tablespoon. Use vinegar in first rinse, I get lots of bubbles but they seem to disappear pretty quickly and fs in the second rinse, again lots of bubbles that break up pretty quickly. I tried Cheer Powder, had too many suds and bubbles that didn't break down. I just can't imagine using a half cup. It seems I probably should since I have an oldschool top load but I'd never get a good rinse with this speed queen.

Soil dwelling organisms like larva and worms feed on freshly decomposing organic matter. In fact, they are part of the chain of decomposition. They feed and poop and then lower organisms process it further. FG's primary food is fungus and freshly decomposing organic matter. Of course, bark and peat are organic matter but nowhere near the same class as leaves, seeds, fruits from the plants. Plus bark and peat both resist decomposition - bark more than peat. But that is what makes it so attractive for soil mixes. Otherwise we could have added any wood chips or other organic matter. In case of 511, not only it is not a suitable base for FG, the top inch or two will dry out quickly making it even harder for FGs to thrive. Of course, all these can be negated by someone who habitually over-waters and does not keep the medium clean of organic debris. All my plants are in 511, gritty or similar structured mixes. And I have not had FGs at least for a decade now. In isolated cases I do get some and always it boils down to a pot that is basically spent - a combination of other accumulated organic matter and severely decomposed bark. People do have reported problems sometimes with FG in 511 mix. Almost all of them used processed potting mix for the peat fraction. And they are notorious sources of fungus gnats. Al.On my bottle it says= 20vol(6% w/v).says 60g/L
I have found out i can get a 2 litre bottle of 50 % hydrogen
peroxide,what do i need to do with that please? I want to mix
in with my tap water.The chemist does not know if its food grade or not but it is definately cheaper.Any advice appreciated.thanks

Dilute at 7.6:1, distilled water:50% H2O2. Add the H2O2 to the water instead of adding water to H2O2 when you mix.

Take a close look at the soil you're using if you think you need this remedial action. I only use it on plants I was too lazy to repot & that are showing symptoms of compaction or soil collapse - usually plants still in nursery/greenhouse soil.

Hi al,. Its more for the citrus through winter.Why distilled water? Correct me if i am wrong=Is that
water that is boiled and left to cool.Is rainwater that has
never come into contact with metal distilled?
so you mean 7 parts distilled water,6 parts 50% hp to 1 litre
of water,is that right?
I just want to encourage root growth,through winter.Ready for
spring flush.They havent done any top growth through the summer and autumn,so i presume they are filling their pots
with roots.Do dwarf citrus tend to do this first before they
grow up top? Cheers
