Dyna gro Foliage pro gallon size

I ordered dyna gro foliage pro gallon size from greenhouse megastorefor $41. I am not sure whether i got the best deal or not but I have a question on the product I received. When I opened the container cap I did not find the plastic seal inside. The container just had a cap. I remember foliage pro always had a plastic seal inside the cap. I called them and they said they get the containers directly from dynagro and ship to their customers and do not open the containers for any reason. I believe them but my prior orders locally for this product came with a seal. Has anyone had ordered from greenhousemegastore and had noticed this as an issue?

I'm sure it's fine. They are a major store and the last thing they want is trouble. They have no need to tamper with the product. Try not to worry about it. Just my .02.

My gallon of Foliage Pro from Greenhouse Megastore arrived on Friday and it had a white plastic seal under the cap.

There are very few plants that satisfy a significant % of their nutritive needs via nutrients dissolved in water that contacts their foliage. The primary pathway for nutrient movement into almost all terrestrial plant material is through the roots. Foliar feeding is used in agricultural situations where a scarcity of one or more nutrients has been identified, and the plant is growing so rapidly that nutritive (plant) demand is greater than the plant's ability to supply (take up) isolated nutrients. Rarely is a complete fertilizer sprayed on foliage; rather, it might be a solution containing Fe, Z, Mn, or any of the other nutrients in attempt to alleviate a deficiency of an already identified nutrient, or sometimes more than one. In containers, plants almost never grow at rates that find the plant's ability to absorb insufficient to support it's growth rate, so if you do see significant improvement in your plants growth rate or appearance, it's a fairly good indicator that something is acting to inhibit the primary pathway or the grower isn't providing all the essential nutrients at a favorable rate and ratio. If you DO provide nutrients in a favorable rate/ratio, and root function isn't inhibited by poor conditions in the rhizosphere, you should see virtually NO difference in growth rate or appearance after foliar feeding. Also, when applying fertilizer via foliar application, it doesn't necessarily correct deficiencies. Nutrients that are immobile in the plant cannot effectively be moved throughout the entire organism, so you really are only providing a stopgap remedy. Any foliage that grows after application of immobile nutrients is still going to be deficient unless that nutrient is taken up so it enters the nutrient stream. An excess of any one nutrient can be as limiting as a deficiency, so make it your goal to ensure all the nutrients plants normally get from the soil and that are essential to normal growth are in the soil at all times, in a ratio that closely mimics that at which the plant actually uses the nutrients, and at a concentration high enough to ensure no deficiencies yet low enough that it doesn't inhibit the plant's ability to take up water and the nutrients dissolved in water. Conceptually, that would be the perfect way to fertilize, and it's not difficult for the hobby grower to get very, very close to getting it just right, using only one fertilizer, if some consideration is given to its selection. Ficus B has SOO much cuticular wax that it wouldn't be of any notable benefit. The best pathway by which nutrients might enter the plant is via the roots. For virtually all agrian applications, foliar feeding is limited to A) plant species that might benefit from the applications B) plants that are growing so fast the nutrients that make their way into the nutrient stream are insufficient to support the growth rate C) supplying only nutrients a known deficiency thereof has been shown to be limiting. Getting back to roots being the best pathway - if you ever see a benefit from a foliar application of nutrients for containerized plants, consider it an excellent indication there is something wrong with your basic nutritional supplementation program. There is no other reason why it would be a benefit. Also foliar applications of fertilizers might mask but not cure deficiencies of immobile nutrients. Al

Marcia, This is a part of one of Dr. Mark Dimmitt's articles. There are many of them if you search on Aridlands or other sites. You are going to find many conflicting results in search for "what" fertilizer works for your Adeniums. I am not a scientist and try to understand and take in what I read. Dr. M. Dimmitt is world renown and he has studied and grown/hybridized many cultivars and most of the introductions to US and/ North America. His studies are based on proven and tried and true results along with his co workers and Authors of a Marvelous book. Adenium: Sculptural Elegance, Floral Extravagance. This book is a true inspiration and must have for people growing these. Feeding Adeniums also respond well to regular and generous fertilizing. I use slow-release fertilizer in my potting media and inject my irrigation water during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer such as 20-20-20 plus micronutrients at a concentration of 200 ppm nitrogen. Inadequate watering and feeding are the primary reasons adeniums have been regarded as slow-growing. Generous culture produces literally unbelievable results. (An eight-month-old plant splitting a six-inch pot that I entered in the seedling category at a CSSA show was disqualified by the judges because they didn't believe it was less than the limit of a year old.) Specimens several feet tall and wide in 18-inch containers can be grown in only three to five years (Figs.1, 2) and sometimes even less. Adeniums seem to require high nitrogen for both strong growth and copious flowering. For one year I used a low nitrogen fertilizer (2-10-10) on most of my mature adeniums in an attempt to thicken their stems while minimizing further elongation. Not only did the low-nitrogen plants not thicken appreciably, they also flowered poorly that year. Even at 320 grams/Liter 1/4 tsp/Gal gives only about 105ppm total concentration. This is about 164 uS at 640 factor.

edweather, it is the trust among people or businesses that keeps everything going in life. I believe them that they did not tamper with the product and my plant care would reflect that as I use only that fertilizer on my vegetable gardening. I hope more folks respond to this post to get an idea if someone else had similar experience

I see that others too have smelled a rat

We have no way to know whether our unsealed juice is diluted.
It is certain that the level in my container was LOW.

So you also purchased yours from Greenhouse Megastore? I purchased a bottle from an eBay seller a couple of years ago without a seal, so the problem doesn't appear to be unique to them.

I just open a gal jug the other day and the seal came off as i opened it and it stayed in the cap.

Double check the seal isn't under the cap -- the seal they use commonly gets stuck to the underside of the cap.

I buy my Foliage Pro from my local hydroponics store. They carry Dyna Gro products.. But they have to order the gallon size for me.

Mine did have a seal on the gallon size.

Just wanted to share..

and I wish that I knew its intended meaning.

Jeez, everybody, this is like pulling teeth.
What we seek to know is whether the mouth is /was SEALED.
Ya know, like takes strong work, or something sharp, to access the contents?
A disk is not a seal unless it in fact is /was achieving a sealed condition.

Hi Four,

I just think the original poster, ( hi Kandhi) and others were questioning this product coming from this certain company were tampered with and possibly of it being diluted. Also to hear of others experiences....

It's just nice to hear that others have the same issues and it if they had the same sealed container . It's not a matter of whether it is just an easy seal to open , but if the product is truly what it is supposed to be .

I think this was the intended discussion and to see if others have had these same experiences .

Some people think / feel like it isn't the true product . So most of us are replying to the questions to let them know our experiences.

That was my " intended meaning " to add to the discussion what mine was like some of the others and that some are " sealed or not sealed" Hope this helps the original poster!!

This thread reminded me that I needed my supply replenished, so I ordered a gallon from GH Megastore. I'm really skeptical about there being anything hokey going on - growers not getting what they pay for, but I guess anything is possible. I'll let the forum know if anything seems amiss, but I don't expect there will be.

Ordered Tues, arrived today (Fri). No issues with the volume of the product or the seal. The seal was sealed like a seal should be sealed. ;-)
