Water Levels Question

This may have been answered but I didn't find it yet. Of course, I haven't read all the messages yet. Is there a way to measure the water in the resevoirs so you would know when to add water? Other than weighing it.

Are you talking about a self watering container? If so the Gardener Supply containers (some of them) come with a float that indicates water level.

In an EB or homemade type with fill tube it probably wouldn't be too difficult to make a crude one although I don't have any plans to give you. The basic idea would be to place something long and thin enough to fit inside the fill tube that floats. Put it in with the reservoir empty and then mark the material at the top of the fill tube 'empty'. Fill the reservoir and again label the float 'full'.

Never actually tried it, but I am thinking the foam used for those tubes made for using in pools/lakes might work. "noodles"?

Anyway, you get the idea.

Insert a 2 foot piece of 1/4 inch clear plastic tubing into the fill pipe until it touches the bottom. Hold your finger over the end so no air gets in. Withdraw the tubing and it will indicate the water level in the reservoir.

Not by much. All plants will release water vapor (transpire) in to the air. You'll loose much, much more to straight old evaporation from the pond which is influenced by wind and water temperature. Also, you may find a bit of wicking occurring (water seeping into the soil along a fold or seam in your liner or if the soil comes in contact with you water). These other loses will easily exceed anything your water hyacinths do. As a counter point you can argue that the water hyacinths shade the water keeping the temperature down thereby reducing evaporation!! LOL! ---David

As long as they have a good tap root it will find it's way. I start seeds in jiffy pellets. I take seedlings, after the 2nd set of leaves and put them in my clay pellets and I keep the water little under the net pot. the bubbles will slash on the bottom of the pot and pellets. All you need is clean water and b1 in the water. I use 3.5 gallon buckets with little net pots. 4 each. with a dual outlet air pump. As soon as they start popping roots thru the bottom. when the get around 2" long, then you can put them into the bigger pots and add more pellets around the smaller pot. Double potting. I use this and it works great. No stress to the plants, and less of a pain getting the roots out of the smaller pot.

Considering that it's only my wife and I and we don't do that many washing loads, we're very satisfied so far that the LG will meet our needs and expectations (won't know how it holds up until later). With the different cycles available and the ability to modify them to a reasonable extent, we can always pretty much match water level to something that works well on any load we would wash. On the cycles that have a high default fill we will just add enough clothes to match. No more loads than we do, the water usage is not that important to us, and we prefer the choice of using a cycle (and/or the water plus selection) that will use enough water for great results, but use very little water when it's appropriate. On the water temps, we're perfectly satisfied as well. Machine cold (not tap cold which is about 62 deg right now) 80-82 deg is fine, well above detergent performance level. Warm around 102 deg tested after fill with clothes) is fine also, and having 120-124 deg hot water available on hot without using the heater (still haven't tested on sanitize or bright whites with heater available) seems unexpectedly good on an HE washer with a hot water heater setting of 135 deg. Don't know what the future holds, but everything considered, at this point we couldn't be more pleased with both washer and dryer (particularly after reading many HE experiences folks have had). It definitely pays to learn the 'ways of operation' of your particular machine. I'm not sure though, after observing a few wash cycles, our washer even knows what it's doing half the time... but it seems to work out well. Thanks... Quinn

One of 3 things. 1) The spa shell is leaking either at a crack or a fitting such as the edge of a drain or a jet. Not real likely but possible. Possible but not really likely. Would require emptying the spa and checking the edges for gaps and cracks. Finding them means verifying with either a dye pen syringe (had a 3" tube to reduce currents) or food coloring to check if the spacing are drawing in water. 2) Check valve flapper's gasket is out of shape or there is debris at the edge. Most likely. Empty the spa below the jets and remove the 8 screws so you can pry the top off and look. Use a #3 Phillips to keep from marring the screws. 3) The valve in front of the pump is leaking. Not likely since NeverLube valves tend to be pretty reliable. Requires lowering the spa to pool height and removing the 8 screws holding the top of the valve. I am assuming the equipment is above the water level and below (requires the pool and spa be plugged, drains too). I know the actuator is attached to the valve. Use a #3 Phillips to keep from marring the screws. Scott

Thanks for the help. I was thinking of a float type device. But, the tubing sounds more within what I have left of my budget.

lime coke, you can use a dowel rod in the same way as you would use a dipstick. The wet section of the dowel will indicate the depth of water in the reservoir.

I purchased some small bamboo sticks from HD, some styrofoam from a hobby store. I cut the bamboo stick so it was the same length as the fill tube. Made a hole in the styrofoam and ran the bamboo stick through it. I wired the foam to the stick. I can tell how much the water has dropped by how much of the stick is sticking out when it floats. I got the idea from someone (wish I could remember who) on here who used corks, but I couldn't find any of them.
