Morning glory...they never climb !

Hello

i have pretty weird case here

my morning glory..i always grow them..they r from my fav babies

n they used to climb everywhere and really fast

now i sowed some seeds from the same old packet and 3 other different packets and they all flowered while they r still babies !!!

like one month old ! about 5-7 cms tall and no tendrils emerging from them !

what do i do wrong? or is that a good thing..but i really want them to climb back

help please

something looks weird ...

what is the latin name... if you dont know.. try the NAME THAT PLANT FORUM ....

it just doesnt look like what i call a morning glory

the latin name is ipomea alba
im sure its morning glory

thats how it looked when it used to climb

Hi All MG Lovers! I'm a new member to join this forum. It's great to find so many MG enthusiasts out here. Some time back while I was going to a friend's place, I saw this tiny house which was sort of 'lit up' with an unusual shade of blue flowers. It was love at first sight! Just to have a look at those flowers I would often drop into my friend's place. Finally, one day not being able to resist myself I stopped the car right beside that house (with blue flowers) and walked up to the door to ring the bell! I could see the surprise (annoyance?) on the face of the girl who opened the door. I apologized thoroughly but explained that I simply HAD to know the name of the flower (MG plants are not at all common in Kolkata, India)! Her face broke into a smile and she told me those beauties were known as Morning Glories, but she couldn't help me any further with information such as method of propagation etc. WellÂnever mind I thought, since I had a clue I'll find more about the love of my life. I looked up on the net and bingo there it was - tons of information! I hunted quite a bit till I stumbled upon this small, dark shop where I found MG, Heavenly Blue seeds. It's exactly seven days now I had sowed them and four of them have popped up! I'm waiting very eagerly to see them grow and bloom with blue flowers (I fell in love with) on the strip of garden infront of my house! So, please wish me a lots of luck! P.S. I went back to my friend's place a couple of weeks back and on the way saw the MG plants were no longer there in that house and it looked ugly and naked. Hope the owners realize their mistake and let the MG grow back. Even if it attracts a few bugs like me!

Maybe it is Camellia japonica ssp. rustica, AKA Camellia japonica var. decumbens, (decumbens meaning prostrate.) More pics.

I got my Cl. Clotilde Soupert from Robert, and it was propagated from the lovely example he speaks about above. In his garden, this rose is unbelievable. In my garden, it is exactly as the OP describes. Mine has just spent its fourth season in the same spot, which is a bit too shady for it to thrive, I believe. I get few flowers (it balls a bit in the spring) and it has shown no inclination to climb whatsoever. Each year, I feel I have to give it 'one more year'. My Climbing Dainty Bess also behaved like a shrub for the first two years of her life in my garden. She is planted in an ideal spot, on an arch in my Rose Field. She came from Sequoia Nursery, which had sent the wrong rose on occasion, so I figured I had another regular Dainty Bess in my collection. Toward the end of the second year, Ms. Bess decided it was finally time to climb, and she promptly shot a basal cane up and over the arch. She's been reaching for the sky ever since. Chamblees may have not sent you the wrong plant. It may be in a bad spot, or it could just be biding its time. Climbers are funny like that. Connie

Kim, To help the carrots break through, water the surface slowly with a sprinkler that is set to run at a low rate or with a soaker hose. Then put down cardboard (held down at the corners by something so it won't blow all the way to Tulsa) on top of the moist soil. Leave it there to prevent crusting and to hold in moisture. Lift it every morning and evening and watch for signs of sprouting seeds. As soon as you see the first sprouts, remove the cardboard or board. Of course, this only works if no carrots are up yet. In the future, one way to work around crusty soil would be to make a furrow about the width and depth of your index finger. Fill it with good finished compost. Sow the seeds in the compost trench. Keep it moist. They'll sprout fast in the loose compost. Another way to help the carrot seeds break through the crusty soil is to soil radishes along with the carrot seeds. Radish seeds will germinate first and produce larger sprouts that will push up through crusty soil and pave the way for the carrots. There's more than one way to skin a cat, and there's more than one way to deal with crusty soil. Bon, I am loving the cool weather and hope it lasts. We'll be hot and dry all too early as it is. We are, of course, a bit warmer here and I have beans and corn that are knee-high. This will be the first year in ages where I'll likely be picking snap beans at the same time I'm harvesting sugar snap peas. It is a crazy, mixed-up weather year. It isn't often that potatoes, onions and sugar snap peas are deliriously happy and growing like mad at the very same time that beans, corn, tomatoes and peppers are equally happy and growing equally well. Both the warm season and cool season crops are getting the kind of weather they like about half the time and it shows in how evenly matched their growth is. The asparagus is insane. I cannot even harvest it fast enough to keep up and many spears that have come up this year have been as big around as my thumb.....or bigger. More and more this year's weather is reminding me of the spring of 2012, and that was a superb garden year. Dawn

are you fertilizing this plant???/ if so.. with what ...

fresh soil???

what is the light situation .... outdoors in full sun??? indoors???

well i use npk for fertilization
i fertilize them once every week...1/2 tsp of npk/ 1 litre of water
but u know what the old ones that used to climb...i never fertilized them
the climber ones were in semi shade
the non climbers i put some in full sunlight
and some under HPS 400w lamps for 12 hours/day ...so almost full sun
the non climbers r healthier than the climbers but they do that thing they do :D

Well, it's not Ipomoea alba, it looks more like I. nil. Two likely possibilities: the nights may be too cold, or the fertilizer may be too low in nitrogen and too high in phosphate. Night temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius would drastically slow growth. Ideal feeding for Morning Glories is a fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 3-1-2, such as 21-7-14, or the new formulation of Miracle Gro. Fertilizers with a very high phoshate percentage (the middle number) will stunt growth while the plant puts all its energy into bloom production--at least until lack of new growth makes the plant unable to form buds!

i ll get some fertilizer that is high in nitrogen...coz i feel the same ...that it is the fertilizer's fault..about the cold nights, im from egypt it has just started to get lil chilly :D so this one is out.
the good news is one of the plants shot a tendril yesterday..the only one that has no buds.and it has different looking leaves, i guess if the one u saw in the pix is I.nil, then the one that started shooting tendrils is I.alba for sure.
