Morning glory...they never climb !

Hello

i have pretty weird case here

my morning glory..i always grow them..they r from my fav babies

n they used to climb everywhere and really fast

now i sowed some seeds from the same old packet and 3 other different packets and they all flowered while they r still babies !!!

like one month old ! about 5-7 cms tall and no tendrils emerging from them !

what do i do wrong? or is that a good thing..but i really want them to climb back

help please

something looks weird ...

what is the latin name... if you dont know.. try the NAME THAT PLANT FORUM ....

it just doesnt look like what i call a morning glory

the latin name is ipomea alba
im sure its morning glory
check these pix
thats how it looked when it used to climb

Maybe it is Camellia japonica ssp. rustica, AKA Camellia japonica var. decumbens, (decumbens meaning prostrate.) More pics.

My Heavenly Blue ones are coming up in the veggie garden...maybe some of those seedlings might also be the Mina lobata (Spanish Flags) that I grew in there last year too. Those were just beautiful. They didn't start blooming until September, but they bloomed thru October and into early November, even after we had a few frosts. Close-up: Out side the fence the wild ones are thick this year. They make smaller sky-blue flowers, but have ivy shaped leaves, like hearts. Pretty. I allow them to grow in the garden but they are big at reseeding themselves. I need to get them started up in the meadow on the fence. They would sure be pretty with those yellow Brown-eyed Susans, white daisy-like Fleabane and white Yarrow. I have the reddish-pink ones that reseed every year and the purpley-blue old-fashioneds. I like them all. Keep posting as yours grow up the strings and eventually flowers. ~Annie

I despise creeping charlie. It sends me into digging fits of rage...digging up established perennials just to eradicate the area of CC. HOWEVER, you can only get to the CC if you get get past all of the wild strawberries...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! *LOL* When I first moved in 2.5 years ago I saw the little yellow flowers and tiny red berries and said, "awwww, isn't that cute". Ahem.... As for "real" stuff that I planted... Pink primroses..pretty when they flower but spread like crazy and look like crap most of the time. Lambs ear is pretty crazy, I have it growing MANY feet from where it started. I didn't plant it but I left it when I moved in and not IT'S moving in! Still, I love the fuzzy leaves. I have sweet autumn clematis eeeeverywhere. I love my huge "planned" vines of it that I transplanted but WOW, the seedlings are outta control and you can't ever get the whole root. I, too, have lemon balm, mint and ribbon grass. They get huge and rambling but I haven't had much problem with digging it up where I don't want it. The mint actually makes me laugh because I can't BELIEVE where it'll pop up! hehe

Thank you, NHBabs. I guess peeking in the area behind the trellis and seeing all the leaves Ms. Morning Glory is putting out there in a dark, tight space makes me sad. Well, I'm just going to assume she knows herself and her needs better than I do, or will at least be able to communicate that to me. :-)) (An absolute pre-requisite for gardening.)

are you fertilizing this plant???/ if so.. with what ...

fresh soil???

what is the light situation .... outdoors in full sun??? indoors???

well i use npk for fertilization
i fertilize them once every week...1/2 tsp of npk/ 1 litre of water
but u know what the old ones that used to climb...i never fertilized them
the climber ones were in semi shade
the non climbers i put some in full sunlight
and some under HPS 400w lamps for 12 hours/day ...so almost full sun
the non climbers r healthier than the climbers but they do that thing they do :D

Well, it's not Ipomoea alba, it looks more like I. nil. Two likely possibilities: the nights may be too cold, or the fertilizer may be too low in nitrogen and too high in phosphate. Night temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius would drastically slow growth. Ideal feeding for Morning Glories is a fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 3-1-2, such as 21-7-14, or the new formulation of Miracle Gro. Fertilizers with a very high phoshate percentage (the middle number) will stunt growth while the plant puts all its energy into bloom production--at least until lack of new growth makes the plant unable to form buds!

i ll get some fertilizer that is high in nitrogen...coz i feel the same ...that it is the fertilizer's fault..about the cold nights, im from egypt it has just started to get lil chilly :D so this one is out.
the good news is one of the plants shot a tendril yesterday..the only one that has no buds.and it has different looking leaves, i guess if the one u saw in the pix is I.nil, then the one that started shooting tendrils is I.alba for sure.
