I don't have raised beds - only rows.

Problem #1: My potatoes were all eaten by an underground animal (left large mounds of dirt around garden and came up from under to eat potatoes). What should I do to eliminate that issue this year?

Problem #2: My tomatoes never ripened - some of that was because it got too chilly near the end of the season. Should I have picked them and let them ripen in the house?

Problem #3: During times of frost, how do I protect my seedlings if I just have rows and not raised beds?

Lastly, what are the beans called that come in the cans at the grocery store (Green Giant) called "Cut Green Beans"?
