suggestions for screen out the neighbors

Hello to all;

I purchased my home about 3 years ago and am in the process of doing alot of yard/landscape work. When I purchased the home the drainage ditch had not been maintained and was, well, not there. It had completely filled in with dirt and debris. I had it re-dug. I also had the lot line on the east side of my property cleaned of scrub trees and brush last year. The city has been hauling in dirt to build up the area I had cleaned out since it now stands in water.

What I am want to do now is plant a row of evergreen screening trees. As you can see in the following pics, there are mature oak, elm, and catalpa (I think I spelled it right) trees still along the lot line.
