I did worse then that! It got up to 52 here today, so I went outside and turned a couple of the raised beds to get the material some breathing space to break down more and be all juicy when I plant. :-) IN JANUARY!!! LOL

Oh, God yes. The people who design seed packets and catalogs are purely evil -- they know exactly how to make us covet that purple-flowered jungle weed from Indonesia that we've NEVER heard of before and that we stand absolutely no chance of ever getting to germinate, or of growing properly if, by some miracle, it does germinate.

Seeds, like crack or heroin, but legal (well, I'm not so sure about the Papaver somniferum they had at Wal-mart the other day, but that's a whole 'nother thread)!

Please don't say your are gets "cold." This is what people from California do.

It does NOT get cold in your area. It gets at best chilly. You wanna see cold? You ever had your entire neighborhood/area under a blanket of 3-4 inches of SOLID ICE for more than a week? Didn't think so.

And I'm not even in the coldest part of the country!

Every time someone from California or Florida (or Houston) claims it gets "cold" where they live, someone in Minnesota dies a little inside.

Yeah, I grew up in New York next to you and it was cold in the winters. But cold is relative, and when it is too cold outside to garden whether it be 30 or -30, it still cold, and still gives us the opportunity to sit inside with catalogues or internet and dream and buy seeds.

I'm trying to map out in my garden where everything is going to go, but there will still be seed left over, I think I will donate some to the kids at the school where I work.

I don't mind the winter. Our spring is so short and the summer is so infernally long. Plus, I've been planting things all year round. I've got kales and lettuce growing happily, along with fava beans, beets, etc. Those catalogues really are a temptation, though.

I enjoyed an hour of snowshoeing and two and a half hours of cross country skiing today through a beautiful forest with lots of white flakes swirling to the ground. Gotta love the snow and cold! Tonight I'll start some peppers and play with some other seeds if I can stay awake :) Every season has its joys.

I've bought over 30 packs of seeds in the past few days and will probably get some more. No idea where I'll plant them all. So yes, I do go hog wild....but they are inexpensive seeds and cheap therapy :) Yeah, just keep rationalizing.....

When I lived outside of Houston, I thought it was cold when it hit 40 and the rain and wind blew. Then I moved to Salt Lake and realized I was right.....it was cold in Houston. The dampness of Houston's nasty gloomy winter was harder for me than the winters here in Salt Lake. Monday we had 18 inches of snow fall with temps in the teens. I love to snowshoe and ski so winters are a nice respite from the garden.

I'm buying seeds this week...in no hurry.......I won't transplant til Memorial Day......unless it snows :) I'm thinking of 2 or 3 types of okra.......can't buy it in the grocery here.

I get winter itch / spring fever right after Christmas. I couldn't stand it this year so I decided to try my hand at some cold weather crops. I am going to put some lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, and collard greens in the ground about mid February. I started them indoors under some grow lights last week.

I'm hoping I won't get carried away and fill up my garden space before it is time to put my spring veggies in there. See some of my little collard seedlings at the link. I'm so excited!

The only problem is that it is much harder to get motivated to go outside and play in the garden when it is 30 degrees outside than it is when spring hits and the temperature is nice out. I live in Georgia so we rarely see anything below the mid 20s, but that's freezing cold to me.
