Sweet potato vines are very cold-sensitive. I had the same experience and brought them into a sunny window in the kitchen. They revived. I have planted a lot of annuals already but not these. They are heat-lovers and anything under 50 degrees will set them back...or worse.

Found on net: Botanically known as Ipomoea batatas, the sweet potato is a member of the morning glory family, Convolvulaceae and is closely related to the morning glory vine (I. purpurea) and the leafy vegetable, kangkong (I. aquatica). It is not related to the true potato, which is a member of the tomato family, Solanaceae. There are ornamental sweet potato varieties grown exclusively for their decorative foliage. These ornamental varieties may also produce edible underground tubers but they are usually less prolific and tubers are usually smaller and not as palatable as those that have been bred and grown exclusively for their tuber. The first thing that comes to mind would be Fungus Gnats, but they look more like mosquitoes then Ants. But tiny flying insects around house plants most often would be Fungus Gnats and they hatch from eggs in the growing medium that is just a bit too moist. The simplest way to control these is to allow the growing medium to dry out quite a bit, without making life too difficult for the plant. Here is a link that might be useful: About Fungus Gnats
