forced bulbs - huge numbers

Hi all,

I am not a usual frequenter of this forum but figured someone here would be able to answer my questions.

I have forced bulbs in the past - tulips and daffodils mostly. It's a lot of fun and very nice to have that burst of color in late winter (especially here in North Dakota where winters are very long!).

I was looking at a catalog from White Flower Farm and admiring their fabulous collections of forced bulbs (web site below). But I can't figure out how they do it! They put 40 or 50 or even more bulbs in a 12 inch pot - how do they get so many bulbs in there? And they mix tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and more and, at least in the picture, they bloom at the same time. How do you get that to happen? I would love to create something like these but just can't figure out the logistics. Any ideas?

Thanks so much,

Ann
