Beginner needs advice!

I am a newbie at gardening so this might sound like a silly question. But.... I am going to plant tulips this Fall along our driveway (about 1/8 acre long). I've already confirmed that the conditions are good for tulips. My question is: What about the grass that is there now..... It is obviously going to grow next Spring too, along with the tulips, won't it??? My husband can cut along the line of tulips when he mows the lawn but won't the grass grow in between the tulips and look overgrown and messy? Do I need to put mulch on top of the soil after I plant the tulips to prevent this from happening? Do I need to create a bed and use some type of edging to separate the line? How does this work? Thanks for any guidance!
