Why Crocosmia doesn't bloom?

I planted Crocosmia "Lucifer" bulbs in early spring. I was told they would do well in shade, so I put some in a shady spot, and some in part sun. All came up and produced healthy looking foliage, but not one sign of a bloom on any of them as of mid Sept. Where did I go wrong? Any suggestions??
