NOW What do I do with them? (Tulip bulbs after-death)

I had a nice stand of tulips, and now they are passing. I know to let the stems turn brown, then pull gently to remove the stalk from the bulb.

My question is: I'd like to plant some annuals in that space. As I recall, some of the bulbs are only 4" deep, at most, 6". What are my options? Pull them up and store them until fall to get them out of the way? They're all just cheapies from Walmart, and I don't know for certain (except for one variety listed in the FAQ) if they will come back next year ANYWAY.

Thoughts?
