January 2006 Garden Journal

Garden? What garden? ;o)

Yep, still have a bunch of carrots, a few turnips, a couple of cabbages, and some weather beaten collards hanging on out there. I did need to cover them with old sheets and light weight blankets during the Dec cold wave but most came thru ok.

Strawberries are looking good but dormant of course, will wait until early March to thin out what I didn't transplant last autumn. Will wait until early Feb to prune the fruit trees.

Got most of my seed orders back already. Gotta keep tabs on Lowes and Home Depo now as they will be setting up their seed displays within a few weeks.

This is a good time to use the wiggle weeder to decapitate those nasty winter weeds that seem unaffected by the cold. By spring time they'll be deep rooted and smothering everything if not nipped in the bud.

Anything going on in your neck of the woods?
