The fruitless under the can light Meiwa has finished its growth spurt with a total of 44 linear inches of new twigs with fresh leaves. It is now tied for the second biggest of seed grown Meiwa kumquat trees I picked the fruit off the other Meiwa tree at half ripe and the skin was sweet and the flesh was very juicy but not much flavor in sweet or sour. I was afraid a mouse would get it and it was the only fruit from a seed grown tree. I also picked all the much ripper fruit from my grafted meiwa and the fruit was sweet skinned with semi sweet tart flesh. very much worth eating. I feed them Miracle Gro 24-8-16 half strength weekly or when needed. They get 16 hours of light daily from the time they come inside till they go outside. lots of light. The temperature inside the can is 10F higher than the room air and is humid. Light put on new shoot outside in early fall. Seedlings under a bucket light with a daylight 23 watt CFL. Temperature rise 20F. 85F inside. 3/4 of the growth happen during fall, winter, and spring. This gives me about a 6 year old plant in 2 years. Beyond this the grow is only a little better than normal. Steve

2 summers ago it put on a couple hundred flowers but only 2 set into fruit. Last summer was the 17 year cicadas and I had to keep the tree protected. Citrus trees are preferred over anything else in my environment. Strange, Citrus trees don't grow around here. Smart cicadas. 2 summers ago all 4 of my Meiwa trees put on hundreds of flowers each of which 2 set fruits. This past summer 2 of 4 put on a total of about 30 fruits.
