Haemanthus coccineus waning

2 years ago I planted one of these in too shady a position.

2 months ago the new leaves emerged and for the second year in a row they are smaller than the previous year.

I think I will have to move it, either to a more sunny spot or to a pot. Question is, do I try to "fake" dormancy, by drying it out, do I cut the small leaves off to make it throw some new ones, or do I wait for dormancy in 6 months time, in which case it may just be exhausted ?
