Hyacinth Emergency- Please help

Many years ago (25-30) I planted hyacinths near my patio. They didn't do well, in fact they kept getting mowed down when the grass was cut, so I gave up. About 5 years ago, I dug up the area, gave it a proper fence and made it my herb garden. The herbs are doing fine. But just this week I noticed a blue hyacinth had popped up. I want to move it immediately to a safer place with other bulb flowers (hyacinths and daffodils). I know I'll be moving it this week, before May 1, here in Long Island Zone 7. Any tips for keeping it alive? It's such an "heroic" little thing, I don't want to lose it. Please post here. Don't send an email-my email account is closed.

No answer is necessary-I have to dig it up because I'm having the whole area tilled next month, in about 2 weeks. So I'll just take my chances and go against the "conventional wisdom". Didn't somebody say you can't be considered a real gardener untill you've killed everything three times?

Just dig it up, transplant and water. It will be fine.

Take the hyacinth bulbs out of the pot, fill the pot 1/3 to 1/2 full with potting soil, depending on the size - the pot sould be at least 10 inches deep - so use another pot if it's not tall enough. The bulbs can be approx. 5 inches apart for a pot. Put the hyacinth in , bury the rest of it with soil, having the tips of the growth just below soil level. If it's a clay pot it will crack outside in the freezing weather, so put in garage or shed. Plastic or similar can stay outside. You can water the pots once now, to settle the soil, and add more on top if you need it to just cover the tips. Then leave them be. They should not grow more , now that it's cold.

There is nothing wrong with the plant. It has to do with cold and erratic temps. When the weather regulates the color will return to normal. If you ever noticed geraniums that have been put out too early they do this too. But when the weather regulates they quickly go back to normal. Don't sweat it.

Help please. Butterfly emerged but not flying

I had a Monarch emerge today, but I'm worried about him, He tried to fly, but fell into another plant and may have damaged his wings. He finally climbed out and is hanging on a tomato bush, but not flying at all. The temperatures are in the low 60's, so I'm hoping that's it and he's just resting until tomorrow, but I'm afraid. His wings look fine, don't look broken. Could it just be the cool weather that's causing him not to fly? I don't know exactly how to raise a butterfly that can't fly. I could use some advice.

Look up the Koi Vet page for routes you could try. Obviously the goldies introduced something into the water. Maybe introduce salt to help stabilize any issues from worsening as you look into a diagnosis and medication?

Just moving it may cause it stress so try to take a large root ball that is part of the planting hole and put it where it can continue to do its thing. If not able to re-plant in the ground, then pot them up and re-plant at the earliest time. They must be allowed to send their starches back down into the bulb so it can re-appear next spring.
Do any digging in the early morning, on a cloudy day or when rain is forecast and water the plant immediately after re-planting. In a pot, water the bulb to drainage, dump the excess and water as you would any other potted plant.
