Also, because my yard is also getting a complete overhaul, can I plant some of the crocus in pots for the summer, then put the bulbs in the ground later? I think that would be fine, or you could plant a bunch of them (crowded in a hole) in an out of the way place and then move them later. I say that because I have problems maintaining 'proper' moisture in containers and find everything does better for me in the ground. Also found this at the link below: Transplanting/Dividing: The best time to move or divide bulbs is when their foliage has all but withered, signaling the end of active growth. Lift them with a digging fork or a spade, taking care to avoid injuring the bulbs, and replant them immediately at the same depth and about three times their diameter apart. Even though they were dug early, they should be fine and grow and recover and bloom for you. It might take them an additional year to recover and bloom though. Hi everyone! Thanks for responding. They get a lot of sun, but they are competing with this horridly invasive applemint that is taking over the yard. Ugh! Bleech! Maybe it's tired from competing with that, though I've been ripping the applemint away from it when I get a chance. I did fertilize it last fall with worm water, so hopefully that will help. I didn't know they are heavy feeders! FYI I also planted 20 of them at my parents house, and theirs didn't flower in the fall either. And, they are fanatics about weeding as well. Could it be too cold for them? I'm in zone 6A and parents are in same zone, though a bit more north.

That pretty much happened to mine this year. I asked on a forum on Facebook about it & they suggested I fertilize them & then divide when the foliage has died back.

Crocuses are Fall planted for Spring blooms. Basically just like your daffodils, but planted much more shallow. If you have some of that famous Georgia clay, plant a bit more shallow than recommended to counteract the heavy clay. I think they look lovely in clumps and I believe you can plant a bit more tightly than suggested although you might find yourself dividing a few years earlier if you do. A big difference for me is that daffodils are not bothered by the foragers in my yard, but my crocus are. If you have squirrels or mice, be aware crocus are delicious to them. I soak mine in DeerOff (or something similar) and coat with cayenne pepper before planting. I do the same with my tulips. Rabbits and deer also like the flowers and foliage. I spray various deterrents when I can find the foliage (most are in the lawn and blend in). I hope I haven't scared you off! Crocus are cheap and even 500 won't break the bank.
