Pretty hard to give a specific ID just based on the photo but one can make suggestions for tulips of similar coloring. The ones in the back look like 'Pink Impression'. In the foreground, the lighter purple tulips could be any of a dozen or more different varieties - 'Purple Lady', 'Purple Rain', 'Singapore', 'Othello', 'Passionale', etc. The darker purple variety could be 'Negrita' or 'Queen of the Night'. And it's almost impossible to discern what the blue flowers are......much too small a photo to work from. Need a close up!! But you could get the same effect by interplanting with muscari or blue hyacinths. But they look more like blue flowered pansies to me.

Ok I will try to help you the best I can. it sounds like to me like you did everything right. although tulips to like cool temps in the 40s but not below freezing so maybe leaving them by the winter is a good idea, as long as you know it will not fall below freezing. Now about the wilting part, it sounds like your bulbs are starting to go dormant for the season, before you think about doing anything with them let me say this,Your right about the tulips being forced any tulips you get this time of year are forced. Forcing them takes a lot out of the tulip bulb which means the chance of them flowering again are not too good Sorry to say this! But if you want to try here is what you do. keep the pot in the sun above freezing temps so the leaves and start to build up strength for next year wait until the leaves have totally dried up keep it moist during this time. after that you can take them out of the pot and store them until fall. and in the fall you should give the tulips 6 to 8 weeks of cool temps in the upper 30s to very low 40s then they Might bloom the next year! but the chances are you will just get leaves with no flowers. but you can always try!

Thanks for the prompt responses. I thought it might be too late for this year and your answers confirmed that. I'm disappointed that the bulbs won't stand a chance with the wildlife here, but I suspected that might be the case. Thought maybe there was a way to work around that with a deer resistant product that I'd never heard of. The one thing I'm not clear on is whether I could put them in the fridge for 2 months before planting in a container (for next yr.) then take them out and keep them in the cool dark basement until 2 months in the fridge before putting them in the container the following spring. This, as opposed to keeping them in a container throughout the year. I would be happy to be able to look forward to having them come up each spring in a container on my porch, though my preference would have been to take the easier route and just plant them outdoors.

One reason to plant in pots and bury/plunge them is when you want to have the 'show' of tulips but want them out of that patch of ground so you can get ahead for whatever you want to put in for summer. When the flowers finish you CAREFULLY dig them up and move them to another bed or area to continue growing and gathering food for the following season. I stressed 'carefully' because some tulips send out dropper roots which can wiggle through the drainage holes and into the actual ground. Once those roots have gone deep enough then the plant starts to form the new, next-season bulb outside the pot. Break the roots and you're likely to lose the new bulb as well. When the flowers have finished and the leaves are still growing on - then is a good time to give them a side dressing of tomato food (something with potash - even clean wood ash) if you didn't fertilise before planting. Helps to set the next flower and harden off the bulb. Store in a cool dark dry place away from mousies. Check for damage and rot before replanting.
