I've grown Plectranthus 'Mona Lavender' (extremely cool!), but it didn't make seeds, and believe me, I was looking. I think this is a designer hybrid that comes only from cuttings. If someone's offering the seeds, please let me know. Papaver somniferum 'Danish Flag' absolutely comes true from seed and is AWESOME. The flowers are 6' tall and the pods as big as a hen's egg. Someone should have some of those to send you for sure. Good luck! Kip

I have been saving and sowing "Silver Shield" Plectranthus, originally from seed I bought from Parks Seed, for 4 years. The first two years I grew them under lights, the last two years I WSed them. They WS VERY easily in a milk jug. The original seed was relatively expensive and I was surprised at how easy it was to save seed from the plants. I love the plectranthus for pots and for beds. Mine get about 2' tall, with lots of thick branching. I have bought a green/lime green variagated plant and a green/white varigated plant this year in hopes of collecting seed. They have not put out flower stalks yet, but if they are like their cousin, hopefully they will this fall. Nancy

Just tip pinch occasionally to control size. In my experience cutting it back too hard isn't good for it, not as tolerant of a hard prune as much as Plectranthus zuluensis or ecklonii are.

Hi Brenda, What a nice collection of plectranthus! I agree about them being insect free for the most part. It's one of the reasons I'm liking them so much. That and the fact that they are so vigorous. Unlike you, I don't seem to have hardly any pictures. Which is hard to believe especially of the one you've identified as Nico. I have given many slips of that one, as everyone who sees it wants a piece, but I can't find a single picture. Overall, I don't bring in the plants, so right now I only have small slips started. I will take pictures once they are potted up. I no longer have cuban oregano, but I do have a fragrant one. The leaf if much larger and variegated. I'm not even sure it's a plectranthus. I don't know if you can see it in the picture. It's in the left hand corner. This picture is just a collection of leftover stuff I potted up and tucked in a corner. I just bought the Frosted Jade this summer. I'm hoping my slips take, as I really like that one. Here's the variegated chartreuse one similar to Nico in leaf shape. Here it is again in a planter. The Frosted Jade can be seen in the hanging pot in the background. If my slips all take, I have 5 different varieties: Nico, Frosted Jade, the variegated chartreuse, the variegated fuzzy leaf one, and the plain green, probably P. australis.
