I am so happy to find this post. I have almost the opposite problem - I live in the hot wet tropics, never cold. I purchased some Crocus (Saffron) corms (was very expensive here so trying to not make mistakes). I put them in my veggie drawer in the refrigerator (all fruits removed from fridge) at 3C/37F. I read that they must have a cold period of at least 15 weeks to have a proper healthy bloom. After being in the fridge less than 3 weeks, each are having a white sprout coming out the top, but no roots. So do: 1. Ignore and wait the 15 weeks (will they starve to death?) or 2. Plant now (they are going in a pot) being very careful not to break the tender shoots and water only once until green shoots emerge from the soil? Thank you so much for the help, Christa

WOW! I am so glad that I am not the only one! LOL! I bought some tulip bulbs last fall, and I was going to plant them in containers. However, I never got round to doing that. I left the bulbs in the unheated (but insulated) garage, which was in the mid 30's to low 40's during winter. About a month ago, I planted the bulbs in some containers, and now they are sprouting very well in the garage! My questions are: 1. When will it be safe to take the containers outside? It can still go to low 30's here at night. 2. How likely are they going to bloom this year, given that the bulbs were chilled in the garage? I am quite surprised by how well they are sprouting! LOL-you are not a noob (whatever that is), maybe just a newbie and we were all that at one time. As for Glads, you need to get them in the ground now as I'm sure your ground has warmed up enough to grow roots. If you buy from a real Glad vendor(as opposed to a mass market place such as the mart stores) you will note that they will almost always give you the number of days from planting until flowering. This is important to people like me for instance because I want Glads that flower as quickly as possible before our heat sets in. You probably don't have to worry about that as much in your area, so it's not as important. A "quick" blooming glad for instance would be 70-75 days, a late blooming glad would be around 90 days. And yes, some of them will probably perenialize if their location suites them and no bulb eating critters come along to munch on them. And btw, I'm not disparaging mart bulbs. They can be quite cost effective and usually perform well. I ordered some from a bulb vendor last year mainly because I wanted fresh American grown bulbs (as opposed to dutch imports) and I wanted to know the names of what I planted so I could buy more (or not) after I saw how they performed. DonÂt worry about the daffodils: I moved some last year right after blooming and before foliage yellowed because IÂ Âneeded to move some lilies before those got too far along! The lilies took priority. As it turned out the daffodils didnÂt miss a beat, even though most sat in a tray until the new place was ready. They are up in force now and look no different that ones that were planted with more care as to timing. The lilies are pickier, so I agree, get them moved. Carefully. They will reward you and your daughter! I planted Mona Lisa myself last spring and am really looking forward to seeing it!
