Mix done and veggies re-potted!

I mentioned on another thread that i was mixing the 5-1-1. so I just wanted to share some pics of the progress.

some of the plants were already too old to re-pot but I am new at this and did not know to put them right away in the bigger pot. I re-pot most, still need few more pots to go.

Just after 2 days the Zucchinis are looking soooo happy. The flower was so nice, big and beautiful this morning.

The tomatoes are looking good and broccoli too. I hope they will be fine and produce something for us. My son is so excited. Because of this group, I am trying new things learning so much! Thanks.

I think that it was last year that I came across a soiless potting mix for tomatoes and other veggies on this web site. I wrote down the recipe and ingredients and then promptly threw it away after I used it. The ingredients include either vermiculite or perlite (cannot remember which), peat moss, bone meal, Osmocote, lime (not sure of the form), and triple super phosphate. Can anyone tell me the ratios of this recipe? I am looking for something in quarts, cups and tablespoons as opposed to net weight. Also, has anyone had any experience reusing this mix from season to season and by simply re-adding the bone meal, Osmocote, lime and triple super phosphate? Thanks in advance, GF!

Halime: Are you sure you want a veggie garden to tend? You have enough to stress you out already. If gardening soothes you, it will be time well spent. If it's another worry, then leave the garden for next year. The mix you have for the soil sounds fine; it reminds me of Mel's mix for square foot gardening. You're in a very different climate than I am, so I don't know what normal planting times are for you. If it's late for planting in your area, you might do better saving the seeds for next year, and buying transplants this year. Another possibility would be making the garden bed as you describe, but planting low-maintenance annual flowers to occupy the space temporarily and make you smile. Vegetables feed the body, flowers feed the soul. Stick with annuals that don't have deep roots or re-seed heavily, and you can take out the flowers whenever you're ready to devote time and energy to vegetables.

Dave, I did see the posts to my two subsequent posts in the Tomato forum and Soil forum. I only re-posted my original question in these two other forums because I did not receive any response when I posted my original question in the Container forum on Sunday. Regarding your suggestion, I wonder how far back I can search a forum? I kind of remember finding out about this recipe about a year ago. As far as finding out how much of each ingredient to add, I must have some pretty cheap ingredients because I do not see any information like that, except for the Osmocote. I do have a container that I used when I originally made the recipe that shows marks (lines) for 2 cups, 1 cup, 1/2 cup and 3 tablespoons but cannot remember how much of each to put in. I fear that I will put too much triple super phosphate, lime or Osmocote and ruin my tomato plants. I sure wish I could find the original posting of this formula. I think I will try and bring the list of ingredients to my local nursery. Still if anyone else knows what the heck I'm trying to find, PLEASE send a response. The ingredient list, once again is: Peat moss, vermiculite or perlite, lime, BONE MEAL, and super triple phosphate; and the question, WHAT RATIOS? Thank, GF.

J4ck, here is a link (below) that explains more about how to winter sow. I believe everything on your list should winter sow well in your zone, expect perhaps the bell peppers. Your season may be too short to get them ripe before the first frost. If you still plan to sow the seeds inside, it should be pretty easy to calculate, since you already know your last frost date. The seeds packets normally will say exactly how many weeks before the last frost to start them indoors. If you still have questions about a particular seed, Carrie is right, there is a specific forum, Growing From Seed, which is geared towards started seeds indoors. Al if you did not share your talent and experience I really think I would not be trying all this. It is impressive your dedication to this forum. Thank you so much for helping us all.
I feel like going around talking about the new discovery. Guys, the first think my son want to do in the morning is checking the plants!(So cute!) So I bought 24 little pots to plant some seeds to give to each of my son's classmates to motivate them and their moms to get this beautiful experience too.
It is so good that I found this place. I am super excited and all my family too. :)
Should I fertilize them now or leave them alone for few days until they get stronger?

Such kind words - thank you very much! It's very rewarding/gratifying for me to see advice/suggestions/methods implemented with good and regular success. Feeling like I've made a difference by helping someone else get more satisfaction from their growing efforts is really the reason I'm here. It feels very good to know that. It's not a prideful thing - I feel 3-ways blessed. One way is that I'm able to help. Another way is that it doesn't feel like a chore - that I am able to take personal satisfaction from helping where I can (but there are a LOT of us like that). And finally, I feel blessed that there are people who want/need/appreciate the help, and that they do express their appreciation from time to time.

It's all a neat little package that goes round & round & what makes up a community. ;o)

You can fertilize now, but .... if the mean (average) temperature is below 55* where you live, wait until it warms up to above that threshold. This is especially true if you are using urea-based fertilizer.

I am still impressed when I look at the pics here Mike I will definately share and hopefully I will have more good news than bad news. :)
But I realize that with the bad news, you learn from that and make the good news be really more enjoyable.
