Colour scheme - what goes with red geraniums (pelargoniums)?
Comments (6)Yep, agree with the purple. I am putting the red geraniums I grew from seed Jan 07 in front of the purple liatris in between blue fescue with alternating yellow dwarf french marigolds for my house border going to the pool area. I had mildew on the verbena last year, although I love it, till August, lol....See MoreGrandma's double red geranium
Comments (10)I am in the UK. I know the plant in the picture as 'Plum Rambler', named I assume for its purplish-cerise flower colour. It is one of the victorian Rambler range, of which Apple Blossom is the only well-known one it seems. I am also lucky enough to have 'Red Rambler' [brilliant scarlet] and 'Rose Rambler' [a deep cerise-pink]. I have tried to find out as much as possible about them. I have heard they were Queen Victoria's favourite [which is a predictable sales-pitch] and that apple blossom at least was created in the early 1800s. They do all seem to share parentage in their large straggly habit as well as the flower shape. Leaf-markings seem to be variable with climate, light, soil type etc, but often develop a red cast all over, especially if left in the same pot for long. I am now specially lucky, as I found someone who gave me a cutting of the rarest one I know, the variegated Apple Blossom. This seems to be a much slower-growing plant, as might be expected, with paler blooms....See MoreWhat color furniture goes with a dark green/brown wall scheme.
Comments (8)What color did you paint the walls? For walls or for bedding, I'd go with ivory or light beige, being careful it doesn't look yellow, not stark white. White might make the black furniture look harsher. Even though apple pie always has very good advice....See Morecolor scheme advice that goes with travertine tiles
Comments (16)My two cents. Keep it very light in neutral whites & creams, not grey. Personally I don't like the upper & lower cabinets different. Okay if it's an island tho. Vertical strips would visually raise the low ceiling plus shiplap is overdone, might be a trend that's run its course. The backsplash & some open shelves could have some aqua beach glass color; also glassware & dishes, contrasted w/ some cobalt blue in small accents would offset that all beige you're worried about. A deep grey green rug under a dining table will also help ground the space. Look for artwork like a sailing vessel on a stormy sea to hang near there as well. Obviously brass fixtures currently having a moment will mesh into the nautical theme just like on a real ship....See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
