Has anyone had a problem with Easytogrowbulbs.com ?

Like items being sold not being as described?

I bought a lot of fancy tuberous begonias from them last year. I really wanted some fancy picotee varieties. They were nothing like the picture, though. White and pink-edged like the photo on their site, but they all had non ruffled, odd long skinny petals. Borderline ugly, really.

I ordered roseform ones too, those were okay. But the whole purpose of the order was to get the picotee type.

I ordered about 20 bulbs, and none of the picotee types were as pictured.

I've received several orders from Easytogrowbulbs.com and I've been pleased with the quality of the bulbs. They also seem careful not to ship tender bulbs when they might freeze in transit. I haven't ordered any begonias.

I have ordered several times and have been pleased with the bulbs and the service. Have never ordered tuberous begonias from them. Did you contact them? Al

Thanks for your answers. It didn't occur to me that there may not even be any dogs! Now I'm thinking I should contact the attorney generals of both states before March 25 because its possible they will close up shop if they aren't going to deliver on that date as promised. Its funny that we have a bit of a shortage of dogs here in NE. There are some lab and shepard mixes at the shelters, but I just don't want a big dog. I don't know tho, maybe I can get dh to move up to medium sized. We are more likely to find a local one then. The want ad is a good idea. I'll ask on Freecycle too. Kathy

Sorry for being cryptic. You only got a snippet of one of my long winded rants. Companies go to a lot of expense to develop better plants. Some of your tubers have a 'pedigree'. AmeriHybrid are developed for better and more flowers. This is what I am looking for, a brand I can depend on. These brand names are dropped, flowers renamed and it is hard to tell what you are buying until it disappoints. I ordered from Golden State because I knew the background of these begonias. They didn't have everything that I wanted but I feel I will get quality plants. My number one objective is to get flowers with depth and good form. I also got bagged begonias from Costco. Who knows what they will be like. I expect to murder a quarter of them when they flower. But they were cheap and the unknown is mysteriously fun. My biggest beef is over petunias. Plants are breed to perform for difficult zones. The names are dropped and they are shipped to any and all zones. I am frustrated by the bottle neck that strips all or most of the information from these plants. Easy to grow blubs wants to be in business next year and sell you more bulbs. They will use your feed back to go back to their growers. I am also wild about picotee. But then I am wild about pots and plants and garden whimsies.

I buy almost all of my plant material online and have for about 4 years. I just changed bulb vendors - I used to buy where I got the best $$$ because to me, bulbs tend to be more of an annual than perennial. If I leave them to over winter they either drown in our wet winters or get eaten by furry mammals that don't belong to me. If they don't over winter, I may use them again or I may forget where I left them...didn't say I was bright! Anyway, I have a new attitude since I bought bulbs from easytogrowbulbs.com. They are so supportive! I bought the largest Dahilia tubers I've ever seen last year and you can bet I remembered where I put them! They were healthy and gorgeous and I can't wait to see what I buy this year from them!! Roses, which are my favorite, come primarily from chambleeroses.com or antiqueroseemporium.com and perennials from paradisegarden.com or wayside gardens. I'm also going to try Steambank gardens this year because they are 100% organic. I'm not sure I'm going to continue with Wayside. In the past they've been great but I was pretty disappointed in the sizes offered and the quality of plants rec'd this year.

The gravel under the pathway should extend about 6"-10" beyond the actual brick. This is called the 'overdig'. That, along with proper compaction are the best ways to prevent your path from sinking along the edges.

Yes, I'm in the process of that now. I sent an email and pictures of one yesterday. Because they were weird looking flowers, I didn't really take many pictures, compared to what I normally take.

I saw they are highly rated on Garden Watchdog. I figured they didn't know they had a batch of odd ones. I'll post an update afterward. I looked up some of the varieties online yesterday, and saw several vendors selling the exact same types, with the same photos. So I donÃ¯Â¿Â½t know who the breeder is.

I didn't think I had a problem... until just this week. Last autumn I ordered Calla Lilies they claimed were hardy to zone 6. I learned that's not true, it's zone 8. Also, I ordered a type of narcissus that is certainly NOT what's growing out there. I ordered replete (16", white, late spring bloom)... what's growing is SOME TYPE of dwarf daffodil, 5" high, with large yellow buds already..

Amy, calla lilies are supposed to be zone 8, & they were wrong in saying zone 6. Still, I'm zone 6 & callas return for me every year & bloom. They do need very well drained soil I think, to return well here. Maybe yours will come back. Sounds like your daffs are definitely wrong, although I believe Repletes are pink.

I've got Callas that return for me each year. The white ones do seem to be the hardier varieties. (I like Flowers and Greens, do be warned, their Alstroemerias are too tempting to pass up.

When a seller works with dozens of growers from all over the world there are bound to be a few bulbs that get mislabeled or sneak into a batch of the wrong color. And there's no way for a seller be able to tell that something's amiss.

As for hardiness zone info, this often comes from the grower. (I used to be in the plant business.) So, sellers trust the growers to know best what the specifics are for the plants they're providing. If the grower says a particular variety exhitis extra hardiness, the seller believes them. After all, the grower has field experience with the plants they sell.

That's why I wanted to know if this was a regular problem. For the picotee begonias, each one of a pack of three was wrong. I do realize that they all look alike in the bulb/corm stage :) .

I have been in touch with them, and they offered to replace those, with me paying the shipping. I'll do it, and see what happens. I did shoot a few pictures of the oddballs and sent it to them.
