Has anyone attended a show yet this year?

Has anyone exhibited yet this year, or does anyone have plans to exhibit?

Over the years I have attended several Daffodil Shows, but this will be the first year for me to enter any daffodils (hopefully). The first one is this Sat April 4th in Jeffersonville, IN.

The second one is April in Indianapolis, IN.

Does anyone belong to The American Daffodil Society(ADS)

Does anyone belong to a state or local Daffodil Society? There are several of them.

I belong to the IN Daff Society, and will be joining the ADS at the urging of many daff loving friends.

Thanks! Later today I will go out and look to see if there might be any that are 'show' worthy. Most of what I have is either new (thus maybe just one or two blooms per variety), or are not in bloom yet. I hope I don't embarrass myself with what I take, but I guess all exhibitors were new at one time.

Sue - please come back and tell us how you did, what you showed. Sure will Verti, even if it is just to let you all know I came home winless, but did muster up the courage to at least show for the first time. Thanks for the links Kathy. I enjoyed the eye candy. I see one of your links led to Full Information Brochure covering the rules and divisions. I see also there is going to be a display by Brent and Becky's Bulbs. I'll bet this is spectacular! I think I may have asked before...will there be someone who will be available to assist you since you are a first timer? Did you know that the night before, a light its strategically placed on blooms that will be shown, to draw their bloom upward? That is why most all of the blooms are facing straight out at you. See how most of these are for the most part, looking straight forward as opposed to downward like they might be in the garden. A local friend was telling me about going to a show out of town and had an overnight stay. She placed a light on the blooms, wanting to draw them up, but fell asleep and left the light on above them all night. When she awoke the next morning, they were all looking toward the ceiling, so more light training was then needed to bring the blooms down some. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I am hosting the January Swap and I noticed how early things seem to pop up for the Incredible Edible Swaps. Anyway, I will try to get this one listed by Dec. 8. I know it is hard to find seeds right now but hopefully everyone has some stashed away. I would like to allow seeds saved from your garden and partial packets of seeds for the January Winter Sowing Seed Swap. First of all, to help out if you don't have many appropraite seeds and secondly, I think some who sign up for the swap may not have winter sowed before so when experimenting, no need to do that with a lot of seeds! When I post the heading, I will include some sites that give guidlelines on what type of seeds to sow when and according to zones. I found that the herbs, tomatoes, and summer squash that I winter sowed were really vigorous plants. Some herbs do great, too. I have only been winter sowing for two years so I am not an expert, but I really think it is a wonderful method for planting. Jeanne

Hey Bonnie! I'm doing ok, was having issues with my cable service but think it should all be taken care of now. What really sucks was that I was in the middle of searching for peppers so I could sort them by color for the yellow seed swap you are hosting when the internet just stopped working. I still have that darn ziplock sitting here full of yellow seeds! LOL I think I'll just throw some of them in the side swap we're doing as freebies. I was seriously having major swap with drawls too! LOL I'm very glad to be back and I missed all of you bunches too. :)

I still get a few free ones in the mail too, and I used to take them to work and hang one in my office. I would give the others to co-workers and hang one in the business center near the copier. I always enjoyed the wildlife or nature photos each month. Bossyvossy, I too am sorry your calendars weren’t used as intended. I recall my mother just loved the ones that were made for her with her grandkids photos. My DD had a journal made for me with a collage of the grandkids on the front. I love it.

These shows will give you a great excuse to add more and more daffodils.... just to make sure you have plenty to chose from on show day!

Even if you don't go to exhibit, you might like to go and see some of the many outstanding blooms of numerous cultivars. I am told there are approximately 25,000 different cultivars, though a lot of them are not grown in the USA.

Additionally, daffs will be on display at Holliday Park and Nature Center in Indianapolis until 5 PM today.

I am officially now addicted to collecting, growing, and showing daffodils and am no longer even eligible for a ribbon award as a 'Small Grower', which is awarded to someone growing fewer than 50 cultivars. Yesterday's show (at Indianapolis) was what sent me over the top, as I entered several blooms and did quite well (I was told) considering I was a total novice....more on that in the other thread later Some show results

Count me in as the addicted. I plan to attend the May 02-03, Reston, Virginia show. I will be in that area attending the American Azalea Society convention. I also have a fondness for native azaleas and one of the gardens on the tour has an extensive collection of natives. I will try to get a couple of daffodils entered before the azalea tour. And then return to the daffodil show during the dinner break of the azalea convention.

Here is a picture of my 2nd place winning entry in the 11b class at the Mid-Atlantic regional last weekend. This was my first show so I am pleased to have been awarded a ribbon. I entered two collections of five and two singles.
