Go ahead and plant them. I had a bunch also dug up because I forgot they were there and just left them piled in a pot. When I noticed them I threw potting mix on top of them and they have all grown just fine,a little crowded, but I will replant them when they die down. Al

Typically, bulb companies ship when it is time to plant in your area, so you should be fine planting when you receive your order. Here's what I know about the others: Gladiolas: you'll have to dig and store. Wait until the foliage begins to brown, or as soon after frost kills it as possible. Dig the corms while the stems are still firmly attached. Shake off the soil and let them dry a few hours in the sun. (Be sure to label them and keep them sorted accordingly.) Then remove them to a frostproof garage, etc. to cure for a few weeks. High temps won't hurt them, but they need good air circulation. When the stems come off the corms easily, do that and clean them up (soil), put them into paper bags, a small box, or a flat, always with a LABEL. Store them as close to 40 degrees as you can. You can pack them in sand, peatmoss, etc, but this is usually not necessary. Bearded irises do not need to be dug. Dahlias do need to be dug. Consult the dahlia forum for excellent information. I'm pretty sure that Asiatic lilies do not need digging. If I am incorrect, I am sure someone will chime in. Japanese Iris, Alliums, and Daffodils are all winter hardy. No digging needed.

Ken- I did get a chuckle out of it. For a minute I thought "wait....where am I ?" I had also posted this in the Âweeds forum, so I was really confused. Chris-Thank you, Thank you for suggesting it might be Crow Poison. I thought at first it might be, but after looking at several pictures and reading info I realized that it was very close, but not quite that. BUT my search did lead me to information about what I do have in my backyard. It is Zephyranthes candida. Of course information and photos vary from site to site, but overall most of them look exactly like this. I guess I was wrong about when it flowers and to be honest, I did not pay that much attention in the past to ÂwhenÂ, but I do remember thinking that their flowering seemed to be a bit erratic. I guess I was guessing when I said it blooms in the spring. I donÂt think it bloomed at all last year because we were busy digging up the entire backyard, so it never got a chance. It did stay green all through the winter including a couple of snow and freezing periods. I would not mind living with this somewhat in certain areas, but not where I have sod. I have 4 dogs and separating dog poo from long stringy leaves is just not fun at all! Then I wind up with dog poo encrusted in them and mowing becomes even less fun. It is really more of a practical matter I guess. It just scares me to watch this stuff take over so quickly. I also worry that it is going to interfere with some of my other plants and I donÂt know enough about gardening to be level-headed about this. It is very thick around my gardenias. Is it going to hurt them? We also planted 160 asiatic jasmine in some areas and now you can hardly see some of them them for these long sprigs of stuff. They are blooming, but you have to look close to see them. I am willing to consistently work on getting rid of this with a chemical methods. I am even willing to sacrifice parts of my sod and later relay new sod, but I suspect that disturbing the soil is going to cause more to pop up and IÂd be right back where I started. Digging it up is impossible. Even hand-pulling is an endless as it comes up faster than I can pull. Would Âpainting round up be effective without killing everything else? How often would I need to do that since it is would also be a huge task. My landscaper that did my backyard is going to be adding a dogwood and fine tuning some other things in a week or so and I will certainly ask him what he thinks. I know he is going to be horrified to see how quickly this has taken over. I just wanted to be able to add lovely things at a slow pace and watch my garden fill out, but seems that mother nature has her own plans for how it should look. This is just a hint about how to keep them contained......I make sure that if I have been working and digging in the gardens where they grow, I wash off all the tools that I was using. I forgot one time and there must have been the tiniest bulb in the soil caked on the trowel and sure enough I got them coming up in the other "clean" garden. I was able to get them though it did involve digging deep and taking out all the soil and throwing it away. When I am weeding in the area where they are, I take a bag right into the garden with me to dispose of the weeds in case tiny bulbs are in the soil and I don't toss the weeds onto the lawn (like I do with other gardens). I am even careful about walking around on the soil and walking anywhere else with soil caked on my shoes. Maybe this sounds extreme, but I am very frustrated with them and don't want them spreading anywhere else in my yard except where they are right now. Having said that, I do think they are pretty. :) Lois
