I Tried them once in my large pots and they didn't do well. It might be that it was too hot for them where I had them--I don't know. I do have sucess though growing them on a small trellis--4 foot. You need a few plants to put on a show because they don't bush out that much

I have planted them in a hanging pot, 12" round and it was beautiful! It grew to about 6 feet 'long'. It was in 9am-3pm sun.

I had some in pots awhile back and they did not do so well in full sun. I think they would do best in a pot or hanging container but only in part sun. You are in my zone so I bet they would like the same conditions. FYI-The larger the pot, the better moisture control and the cooler the roots can stay.

Last year I grew Black Eyed Susan vine in a cedar planter that's 2'x 2' and 16" deep.

I put an orange one near the back in the middle with a metal trellis to climb. I also put two yellow ones, in about the middle, but side by side to make a triangle with the orange one and put some bamboo stakes for them.

They were in full sun from about 7:00 a.m. until about 5:00 p.m. if I remember correctly. Lots of sun anyway.

It was unbelievably beautiful! I was amazed. From time to time I would snip little bits off to help them get bushier, and sometimes I would help them go the direction I wanted by twisting them around the trellis where I wanted them.

I have 2 growing in a pot and they are being trained on a 5' obelisk. They have mostly shade and they look terrific, so far.
By the way, do they like fertilizer? Some vines thrive in poor soil, but I think these like it rich.
