Growing morning glory on roses

I saw a picture of heavenly blue morning glories growing on a pink rose and thought it was beautiful. Whenever I mention wanting to grow mg's on my roses, the folks on the rose forum gasp. No, no, don't ever do that. They will strangle everything in the garden.

I know mg's can be a problem in the south. When I lived in Alabama, they grew out from the fields and onto the roads. But here in the frigid north, they don't grow all that well.

What do you guys think? Will the seedlings be out of control? Has anyone in zone 4 or 5 had problems with reseeding?
