Need Help with My Swedish Ivy (Creeping Charley)

I have two small (4" pots) Swedish Ivys (Creeping Charlies) in my kitchen. One of them is doing great, lots of growth, dark green & shiny. The other is in the same type of soil, gets the same ammt. of watering, but is very yellow.

I was thinking of transplanting them, but not sure if they like to be root bound or like space at the bottom with soil.

I have searched the net, but can't seem to find out why this is happening. They both get the same light; western, on the open window of my kitchen window sill; only a couple of hours a day of direct light.

I have thought of taking the yellowing one out of the soil, and just putting it directly in water. I've done this with other house plants that were not doing well, and they turned a dark green.

Any suggestion??

You might want to check the Houseplant forum for more and better responses. I also have one of these and had it rooting in water for who knows how long, to the point where the leaves were not only yellow, but were turning pink-white. LOL I finally got around to potting it in some Promix soil, and it finally got darker green. I have it sitting under my 200W table lamp.

They seem to need ALOT of direct artificial or alot of indirect (filtered, eg., behind sheer curtains) sun... at least from what I've observed from people growing them in hanging baskets for years. Some people have been able acclimatize theirs to more direct sun in a window. Also, they seem to like to have their soil dry a bit before watering again. I think keeping the soil too moist can mean stem rot (since the stems are so fleshy). Too dry and they really droop.

Rosie, I can try layering some for you. I is a hard vine to find. Mine is still in the pot, and I'll see what I can do. Never propagated this one before, but it seems that layering should work for this type of vine. Have you seen the new tri-colored leaf confederate jasmine? grilledcheese, you might try" silver lace vine". it can cover a fence really quick, it has tiny white bloons, that bees love,tiny bees. i have some freezingin the winter so mine dies down in winter, but it bounces back real quick when the weather warms up. hope this helps molly

Agree. Sometimes you have to go beyond what the organic approaches can do for you. I will take this forum over all the YouTube lawn care folks. This forum is well over 20 years old with people like me and a few others with long memories of what has worked and not. The YouTube guys seem to be doing their own thing completely without guidance or critique. Basically they're doing what their pappy taught them and calling it the Truth. Speaking of memory, there was a guy here a long time ago who did eradicate creeping Charlie by digging it out. He started in one corner and went as far as he could go. The next week he started IN THE SAME CORNER to get the stuff that had already regrown. He got a lot farther the second time. The third week he started IN THE SAME CORNER as before. It is that type of patience and persistence that it takes to eradicate the weed. Spraying it out may take similar persistence, but wait 3 weeks between applications to see the results. If the spray does not kill the seeds (most sprays don't), then prepare to repeat the spray either later in the season or next season.

one of you says keep watering.. the other says not to ... lol ... insert finger in pot.. and find out when they need water ... do not overwater .... and presuming your pot has a drain hole.. its probably not an issue ... do let the pot dry out a bit.. before you water again ... since they dont have a great root mass ... you do need to provide enough water ... without loving them to death with too much water ... if you placed them in a baggie.. open at the top.. it might help create a zone iof higher humidity ... which might help ... i see now.. you did that.. good ... done if you can post a pic.. that might help also ... what do you mean.. yours are soft and lilty ??? there is no reason to start over.. with rooting hormones ... ken
