Building with Bent Twigs?
Comments (10)Yes Trudy, I did dry the twigs for a little over 24 hours. They didn't sprout this year, but I have considered the possibility they could sprout in spring. In my reasearch, I learned that there is actually a british form of trellising/fencing that uses fresh willow twigs and relies on them to sprout, creating a sort of living fence. So, if my trellis sprouts, I will probably just move it and turn it into an experiment with this method. I ended up putting the trellis elsewhere - it showed up better on the side of the garage - and decided to use ferns and some shrubby plants to screen the AC unit....See MoreHelp making a fence with twigs and wire?
Comments (4)I've been considering a twig and grapevine fence to keep a puppy out of newly planted flower beds. Was thinking of sticking the twigs (about 1" diam) into the ground about 2 or 3 feet apart, then weaving 2 or 3 rows of grapevine through them. The fence only needs to be 14" to 18" high. I can harvest the twigs from the yard trash on the curb and the grape vine grows wild. Free fence except for the labor. Sound feasable? Any opinions on this? cora...See MoreA Rustic Fence in Winter
Comments (6)Thanks for the kind words! We are in "The Snow Belt"...get LOTS OF SNOW and love it! Our property is right next to a hiking /cross-country ski trail. Often ski over to it. Nanatink, I usually put many of my carved bears in for the winter to hibernate (hee hee) along with more of the other stuff (like the chairs and bench)....ran out of time this last year with my DW being pregnant and all. We were both too pooped! LOL This spring, I gave everything an extra coat of verathane (sp) and the bench got an extra coat of paint. Dena, I ordered the oil! Excited to get it!!!! Thanks for the advice! Oh, I'm in the process of building another rustic arbor for a different part of our yard. Maybe that will be my June POTM, something that is half finished!!!
