Yes, Rhonda, another good source for molds. I started out w/ History Stones about 3 years ago, and the rest is history! LOL There were very few molds that I found to be lacking. Prices are all over the place - you get what you pay for. I bid furiously on eBay - and eventually learned how to make my own molds from urethane. It is hard to not see "molds" in a lot of things you find - especially at thrift stores and such. I was so smitten that I was even doing pavers in my kitchen during the winter months - that is a sick person. I gave myself a couple years vacation, but I can feel the mud stirring in my bones again as warm weather returns.

Thanks, Ladies. The little jackrabbit is the new mold I recently got, really like it. Will be fun to paint different ways. A friend took the "Night Jackrabbit" one, so need to make myself one as I like it a lot too. Not too sure I like the reddish colored ones, but another friend wanted terra cotta look. The big bunny mold still my favorite one. I've got a bunch of molds yet to pour that have nothing to do with rabbits or my whippets . Just some cute garden stone molds, and a fairy door one. Most small ones like the jackrabbit, so not so heavy for me to lift and mess with. Tho I do have a huge lizard mold.... LOL. Karen

Hi Stevedoug- I am a stone mason just over in Asheville. It's always best to start steps at the bottom of your slope, as you get toward the top you can always choose the next stones you use to meet the final grade. You can also rent a transit at your local equipment rental and that will help you determine the exact hight you need to reach. I always dig a base below the frost line, around here it's around 6-8". Next put down a layer of small gravel on your subsoil, make sure you have hit packed clay. You can adjust the level of your step by adding or removing gravel. Give your steps a very slight downward pitch, this will keep water from collecting on them. Then just work your way up, packing gravel around the edges of the stones as you go. You can also over lap the front edge of the upper stone with the back edge of the bottom stone to provide greater stability. Good luck!

heymarilyn - I've done what you're intending to do. I used regular cheapo bag concrete mix and some of the dye's the big box stores sell. I kinda blended them unevenly to make it look more like a natural stone. What I did is set up an area (mine was right in the space I wanted the finished rocks to be so I didn't have to move them much) by raking away all the leaves and grass blades. I wet the sandy soil and tamped it down to make it sorta smooth. Then I mixed the concrete according to the bag's instructions and streaked in the dye. Then I dumped it on the ground in a large flat blob. I took sand and small pebbles and threw them at the blob at an angle to get a natural texture on the top side. After the blob had cured I used a shovel to lift it up around the edges and it would crack into pie plate sized chunks. I then evaluated which side I liked the best - sometimes it would look better on the soil side other times on the top and textured side. I just roughed up the dirt in the area and layed the faux flagstones down and sprinkled more dirt on top and in between. They only cracked when I walk on them if they are very thin.
