Blue Pearl vinca seeds - where can I get them?

Last year I ordered them from Swallowtail per board recs, but they are out this year, and I called them and they said they are out for the season. Stokes, Park, Burpee don't have Blue Pearl, either. Does anyone have a clue where oh where I can get my beloved Blue Pearl seeds?!?

Your local garden center will be stocking spring and summer annual seeds before you know it!I think the Lake Valley Seed company carries them.

Michele, unfortunately, the producer of this variety (Pan American Seed) discontinued any new seed production nearly 2 years ago. That's why Park, Burpee, etc. don't have it - they can't get it from the originator. BUT, Pan American did release a new one called 'Titan Lavender Blue Halo" that is nearly identical. Burpee carries this under the name of 'Sun Goddess'.

Hello. I would love some seeds. I would especially like: sedum kantschaticum, rose of sharon mix, plains creopsis, and coral reef be balm. I would also be interested in any type of dahlias, clematis heracleifolia, red cypress vine, bleeding hearts, four o'clocks, or pretty much any perennial you have left that will grow in my zone. thanks!

kwilson...please oh please oh please...? I'll send you a note, ok? Terryr, sounds like how things are here. If there isn't a wall of corn planted right up to the roadside, by August the pigweed and ragweed and other stuff is so high you have to take a chance and ease out there on country roads-stop sign or not. We always look for the oncoming wall of dust behind an approaching vehicle--one good thing about gravel roads I guess. And the gravel here isn't just your standard limestone, it's this wonderful river pebble mix which gives you the eerie feeling that you are cruising along on a bed of ball bearings. Which is mightily unsuitable stuff for sudden turns, swerves and stops. The indigo...yep, it's prairie false indigo or white wild indigo-baptisia alba. I have quite a few plants around that I have been watching over the summer, but there is something drilling into them and eating the seeds. I don't know if it's a weevil going in from the outside or something that was laid as an egg on the flower and developed from within but all the fruits I've picked have tiny perfect holes in them and weigh next to nothing. This plant is actually doing quite well around here and I suspect some wonderful person is quietly seeding the roadsides and railroad right of ways because all sorts of prairie stuff is popping up in the last 3 years.

its very hard to over winter things in the house.. the colder your zone ... it has a lot to do with forced air furnace.. aka ambient humidity ... and lack of proper light ... if you had a light stand ... and learned about propagation... you can probably do it easily .... rooting and rerooting plants all winter long.. culminating in late march.. with a nice number of plants ... but unless you are willing to go that far.. i wont waste my time describing such ... new post with good title.. will get you that ... take the latin name.. add PROPAGATION... and google away.. to find out how to do it ... genetics is kinda cool.. when trying to grow self collected seed... as you found.. there is little predictability .. and many of us.. would like the challenge.. and the bizarre results ... not really considering off color to be a failure ... but to insure what you want.. you have to usually buy the seed pack .. which is not really that much of an investment.. to insure the result you want ... but then growing a flat of plants indoors in late winter.. can run you right back into the problems mentioned above.. humidity and light ... ken

Blue Pearl leaves shrivelling up

Thanks everyone for the responses! I was concerned because it seemed as if the leaves were yellowing/shrivelling up quite quickly. While the photo I posted on Monday didn't have any shrivelled up leaves, a couple leaves were starting to yellow and the plant has lost a large amount of leaves since I first got it. The temperatures have been between 15C-25C the last few weeks. Last week had some colder days so I had to bring them inside for few days. My plants are on a balcony so they get some morning light and late afternoon sun. At least 4 hours of afternoon soon - probably more. Thanks again for your help!

Well, thanks for the update, I guess I'll have to just try something new, seems I don't have a choice. The color of Blue Pearl was just perfection in my book, wonder if the Titan series you mentioned is the same (BP had no red tone whatsoever, which is why I love it).

Why did the fools discontinue seed production? Blue Pearl was a constant top seller in my area!!

Michele, they dropped the Blue Pearl because their breeders developed a whole series with the same habit as the Blue Pearl, and they included a Blue Pearl color in the new Series - happens all the time. I think that you will find the 'Sun Goddess' to be the exact same color. Select 'Vinca' in the dropdown in the url provided.

Thanks for the info and link. The color does look the same, but the original Blue Pearl didn't have such a large white eye (fussy, fussy, aren't I :p). Well, looks like that is what I'll be trying this year. Thanks again :)
