i'd be afraid of getting cut, so be careful, those edges are pretty sharp yep-i think that's why they framed the top in the original plan. The edges are really sharp where i cut the tin so i faced them into the soil. The machine finished edge is a lot smoother so it is top side up. Carolynp and angela-thank-you! how exactly did you build it and what did it cost? had some 1.5" black PVC laying around. cut it into 24" lengths and pounded them a foot in the ground every two feet (you might be able to space them further apart). The tin panels were 2'x8'. I bought two and ripped them in half lenthwise and then ripped one in half crosswise using a jigsaw with a metal blade. (For my next bed i only need one panel since i have the ends left over from the first one.) Drilled some holes through the tin and PVC and bolted them together with galvinized bolts. I think tin was about $20 per panel but might be less in your area. Way cheaper than Trex which was the other material i was thinking about. The bolts were actually the most expensive part but you might be able to use only 1/2 as many as i did. One thing to remember is that the end panels have to be 1/2" lower or higher than the side panels so the corner bolts don't collide. Demeter-great idea!

hi, been awhile since I,ve posted , machine crashed hard and just got it online AND PROTECTED . I used 3 2x3 sheets of tin for a backsplash for my stove I used lath on the wall and attached it to that . have seen scrap pieces like you have in barn wood frames for sale in retail shops . also saw them used as a mat for antique lookin pics . I bought mine new from restorers catolog very pricey .I have a pc. of scrap and always thought that cutting a pc. of this into a switch plate cover would look good , just use a plastic one for the template and snips . If they are painted Oven cleaner will help get through some of it . be careful I cut myself to the bone on a pc. of this . Rick do what you can ...where you are ...with what you have ...

if you don't want it to look light, then get a darker charcoal or even black. is there a way you can grab some samples and put them up on your roof? the roofing companies should send them out to you. they did to me. This way you'll see how much lighter they look once on top. Try Boral, Eagle roofing. unless you just want plain old asphalt? As I understand it, tin ceilings are only tin plated. Tin is resistant to rust, which is why cans used to be tin plated also, but tin is actually a rather expensive metal. If the tin plating wears off, then the base metal could corrode/rust. Tin used to be more plentiful, but it is only found in certain areas of the world. Aluminum foil used to be tin foil, but tin foil has not been available for quite some time, at least from what I have seen. In fact, I never heard the term tin foil until I visited the East Coast - for me, it was always aluminum foil, but some people still call aluminum foil "tin foil," which is confusing. I do have some cookware that is tin plated, but that is not common anymore either. My father's store, built in 1901 had a tin ceiling, and that was painted. I used to use a plating company that would tin plate items, and this was the only plating company I knew that did tin plating, and it was very beautiful. However, for furniture, people did not like the sound of "tin" as a finish, despite tin being somewhat rare and expensive. People just thought it sounded cheap. However, it is a good substitute for silver, since it is lighter than stainless steel, but then it is also lighter than silver. If the plating is wearing off from you ceiling, then painting it is a good idea.
